Chapter 376 He’s a Liar
Bethan had been waiting for Hugh at the appointed time, but he never showed.
After leaving the consulting room, she absentmindedly picked up a registration slip on the floor and saw Hugh’s name.
With a complex expression, she scanned the corridor for him, then turned back into the room.
She didn’t call Fiona again, and Hugh didn’t come to find her either.
Two days later, Marshall was cremated and buried. The Davis family kept it low-key, not informing anyone.
Hugh, along with James, later went to the Davis family’s place to offer compensation, going through all the proper motions.

On Thanksgiving, at the restaurant, in the corridor, the two families faced each other, separated by a few feet.
Being polite, Bethan greeted Fiona. Then, she led her family and Arthur into their private dining room.
Hugh regained his composure subtly and stepped into the private dining room.
Once everyone was inside, Gwen found herself standing at the room’s entrance.
As fate would have it, the room she’d reserved was adjacent to the one Bethan had booked.
In Bethan’s room, as they waited for the Thanksgiving feast, Arthur leaned over to her. “Hey, Bethy, your birthday’s coming up. What do you want? I’ll get it for you ahead of time.”
Bethan, looking at Arthur’s good-looking mixed-race face, teased, “How about you bring a girlfriend to my birthday?”
Arthur turned to Miranda. “Can you introduce me to one?”
Waving her hand, Miranda said, “The girls I know are just ordinary folks. They’re not up to the Locke family’s standards.”
Barry patted his chest. “Don’t worry, Arthur. I’ll find you one at school.”
Arthur scoffed, “You’re crazy! It’s not a toy you can just hand over!”
Next door, the Cavill family’s room was filled with a heavy silence, all because of Hugh.
He got up and said, “I’m gonna go have a smoke.”
In the smoking area at the end of the corridor, Hugh saw Bethan by the window on the phone. He took the cigarette out of his mouth.
Bethan hung up and turned around, suddenly meeting Hugh’s intense stare.
