Chapter 380 There’s No Way It’s True!
Locked in a daze, Bethan’s eyes were fixed intently on Tristen’s
solemn face.
It took her a while to process what was happening as she sank into a heavy silence that seemed to drag on for ages.
Suddenly, a sharp laugh escaped her lips. “There’s no way it’s true!” she scoffed.
Looking grim, Tristen broke the tension. “The Cavill family hasn’t left yet. You might want to head to the morgue and say your final goodbye.”
Without a word, Bethan met his gaze and then spun around abruptly.
Fiddling with her hair, she took a brief sweep of the familiar office space.
Grabbing her bag resolutely, she drew in a deep breath and pivoted to face Tristen again.
“Tristen, I’m gonna need two days off,” she requested.

With unsteady steps, Bethan headed out of the office.

Worried, Tristen trailed behind her to the doorway. “Let me give you a ride home. You need to take it easy for a while,” he
offered.
The car ride was filled with an eerie silence. Neither of them
uttered a single word.
Once they reached her house, Bethan jumped out of the car and rushed towards the front door, completely forgetting to bid Tristen farewell.
As she entered the yard, Vincent and Miranda, who were busy tending to the flowers, were taken aback by her unexpected
appearance.
Vincent put down the potted plant in his hands. “I thought you had a consultation this morning. What gives?” he questioned.
Bethan squeezed her bag tight, her eyelashes fluttering rapidly.
Immediately, Miranda sensed that something was amiss.
She discarded her gardening scissors, removed her gloves, and reached out to take her daughter’s hand. It was balled up and quivering.

Attempting a smile that never quite formed, Bethan stared at her parents but found it hard to speak.
The old couple grew increasingly restless.
“Come on, out with it. Or I’ll call Mr. Dixon and find out myself,” Vincent said, pulling out his phone.
Bethan quickly put her hand up to stop him. “Dad, I’m alright. It’s Hugh… he’s passed away,” she finally managed to say, her voice cracking.
Her parents exchanged a shocked look and vigorously shook their heads.
“No, that can’t be,” they protested.
Bethan continued, “He had a sudden heart attack at home last night. They tried to save him at the hospital, but it was too late.”
Vincent turned away, letting out a long, heavy sigh.
Instantly, Miranda’s eyes welled up with tears.
Watching her parents struggle to hold back their grief, Bethan felt a complex mix of emotions well up inside her.

grow up. How could they not be heartbroken?
However, she couldn’t just hide the news of Hugh’s death from her parents, either.
After offering a few words of comfort to her parents, Bethan retreated to her room and locked the door behind her.
At noon, Arthur dropped by to check on Bethan.
Miranda informed him that Bethan had shut herself away since she’d returned home and hadn’t emerged all morning.
Barry, looking a bit hesitant, spoke up, “I saw him spitting blood on Thanksgiving. He was in a really rough state. He apologized to me and begged me not to tell Bethan.”
“Well, now Bethan’s birthday’ll be Hugh’s death anniversary. Talk about a lousy choice of timing,” Arthur quipped, a hint of
bitterness in his voice.
Everyone exchanged glances, then let out sighs.
No one had expected that Bethan’s 27th birthday would turn into Hugh’s death anniversary.
Inside the room, Bethan changed into a white dress and stood

hide the emotions welling up.
Hugh first deceived her when he lied about going on a business trip to take care of Megan for a month.
The second time was on Thanksgiving. He told her he was fine when he was actually ill.
Bethan gently opened the door.
“It’s stuffy in here. I’ll go out for a walk,” she said calmly.
The others looked at each other. Though worried, no one stopped her.
