Chapter 392 Who Does She Think She Is?
Bethan’s parents exchanged a knowing look, and Miranda was sent to fetch Bethan.
“Bethy just graduated. It wouldn’t hurt for her to work for a couple of years before tying the knot,” Vincent chimed in.
Fiona frowned, sensing something amiss. “Vincent, we’ve known each other for ages. Working and getting married aren’t mutually exclusive. If she wants to work, I’m all for it. But this sudden cold feet about the wedding? There’s gotta be more to it.”
She then questioned, worry lacing her voice, “Did Hugh do something to tick you guys and Bethy off?”
Just then, Bethan trailed in after her mother, making her way over to Fiona and taking a seat.
“Fiona, it’s on me,” she blurted out.
Bethan had been reborn with the memories of her past life, while those around her didn’t.
With a patient air, she explained, “Mrs. Fiona, I was young and naive befor license, I realize that mama-ca other. It’s just 14 family love, not the romantic kind. So, I can’t marry him.”
Taking Fiona’s hand, Bethan pleaded earnestly, “Sorry, Mrs. Fiona. Hugh’s like a real-blood brother to me. I know I’m a bit late to the party, but thank goodness we haven’t walked down the aisle yet. It’s still salvageable.
“You’ve always treated me like your own. How about making it official and taking me as your god-daughter? When you’re old, I’ll be right there with Gwen to look after you.”
Fiona was at a loss. If it were a matter of unmet conditions, she might’ve had a way out.
But Bethan’s claim of seeing Hugh as a brother left her speechless.
She couldn’t reject the offer of Bethan’s filial care, nor could she force the wedding.
After leaving the Olsen family’s residence, Fiona wasted no time calling Hugh. “You’d better be at the Cavill Manor tonight,” she commanded.
As evening descended, Hugh pulled up to the grand entrance of the Cavill Manor.
Before he even stepped inside, Ryan’s booming voice cut through the air.
“Want to get hitched? Fine. Don’t want to? One word, and she thinks she can ditch the Cavill family? Who does she think she is?
“If this wedding doesn’t go ahead as planned, I’ll make the Olsens pay!”
Hugh strolled into the living room, unfazed. “Dad, this is my call. Knock it off with the threats,” he retorted firmly.
He knew Bethan detested threats, and in this new life, he’d shield her from them at all costs, even from his own.
At his words, Fiona, clearly irate, demanded, “Hugh, spill the beans. Is this wedding off or what?”
