Chapter 396 What’s the Deal?

The moment Hugh uttered his words, a noticeable change

swept over the crowd. Faces blanched as a flurry of apologies spilled forth.

“Sorry, Mr. Cavill. We were just talking nonsense,” someone blurted out, voice laced with nervousness.

“Yeah, just a bit of banter,” another chimed in, trying to play it off.

“Hey, we’re all friends here. If it upset you, we’ll watch our tongues,” a third piped up, offering a conciliatory smile.

Hugh’s steely gaze raked over each person, his expression impassive. “No worries,” he replied, though there was an underlying edge to his tone.

They’ll soon regret their words.

Without another word, he slid into his car and drove off, leaving a tense silence in his wake.

Once he was out of sight, Mason stepped in to defuse the awkwardness. “How about we go to our usual spot tonight? Drinks are on me,” he said, flashing a grin.

After shooing everyone away, Mason tugged Gwen towards the car.

Gwen eyed him with a mischievous glint in her eye. “What’s the rush, Mason? You got a hot date with the devil?” she quipped.

Mason shot her a mock-glare as he started the engine. “Watch it. One more wise crack and I’ll ditch you by the side of the road,” he threatened, though there was no real heat in his words.

At his words, Gwen rummaged through her purse and pulled out an eyebrow razor, brandishing it playfully.

“Try it, and you’ll be wearing a new blood-red scar. Tell me, where are you taking me?” she warned.

Mason shrugged and said, “Do as you please. Even if you kill me, I’ll haunt you as a ghost.”

Startled, Gwen quickly put the eyebrow razor away. “That’s out of the question!”

Mason fell silent, his eyes fixed intently on Gwen.

After a long moment of hesitation, he finally spoke up, “Sending you home. There might be something interesting happening there.”

Hugh and Bethan’s wedding was just around the corner, all set to go, and then, out of the blue, it hit the brakes.

Mason was dying to see how Hugh would get out of this mess with his grandfather.

Over an hour later, Hugh pulled up to the Cavill Manor.
