Hugh rushed off, leaving the driver and the car for Bethan.
Bethan sent the driver away and hopped into another cab, trailing Hugh all the way to the hospital.
She was dying to see what the woman who’d held Hugh’s heart for so many years looked like.
Bethan followed him to the elevator. She watched as Hugh stepped into one.
When she got out of another elevator, Hugh was nowhere to be seen.
Bethan couldn’t help but mock herself.
She used to be someone—Bethan Olsen, from one of the wealthiest families in town. Now she was trailing her cheating husband like some desperate housewife.
Her mood was just terrible.
If it weren’t for fear that Miranda couldn’t handle the stress, she’d love to have a hysterical fight with Hugh and just let him go.
This split and painful feeling was driving her crazy.
After calming down, Bethan dried her tears, fixed her makeup, and headed to her mother’s ward.
Seeing her daughter come in so late at night, Miranda couldn’t help but worry. “Bethy, tell me the truth. Did you have a fight with Hugh?”
Bethan pulled a chair and sat beside her mother’s bed. Forcing a smile, she said, “Mom, we didn’t fight.”
She used to tell her parents that marrying Hugh was the best thing that ever happened to her.
How could she tell them now that the man they thought he was didn’t exist? That he’d cheated on her and she wanted a divorce?
Vincent handed Bethan some snacks. “Beth, Hugh has been good to our family these past three years—financially and otherwise. If something’s wrong, talk to him about it. Don’t shut him out or pick fights.”
Miranda looked at her daughter, pain in her eyes. “You’re twenty-five now, honey. Hugh is the only Cavill heir. If you have a baby soon, it’ll strengthen your marriage. Secure your place in that family.”
Bethan fell silent.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want a child—Hugh was the one who didn’t.
She recalled one time when Hugh returned from a week-long business trip.
She’d stashed away all the condoms beforehand.
That night, Hugh was incredibly passionate. They spent the whole night together without any protection.
Bethan was over the moon, thinking Hugh was finally on board with having a baby.
The next morning, he handed her the morning-after pill and stood there until she swallowed it.
Since then, she’d stopped trying and given up the idea of having a baby.
She understood now—Hugh didn’t want a baby with her. He’d been perfectly happy to have one with Megan.
Just then, Barry Olsen, Bethan’s younger brother, showed up at the hospital. When he saw Bethan, he happily walked over and slung his arm around her. “Hey, Bethan! I just ran into Hugh.”
The smile on Bethan’s face instantly faded.
Miranda chided Bethan, “Bethy, did Hugh come with you, why didn’t you tell me?”
Bethan quickly covered it up. “No, he came to visit a friend. I just went along for the ride.”
Bethan then asked Barry, “Barry, where exactly did you see Hugh?”
Barry scratched his head. “I bumped into him in the elevator. Seemed like he pressed the button for the 13th floor.”
Bethan made some excuses to her parents and went to the 13th floor alone.
She didn’t dare to ask around. Instead, she checked each ward along the corridor one by one.
Even though Bethan wasn’t the one in the wrong, the deeper she went, the more nervous she got.
This floor was full of single-suite VIP wards. There weren’t many people in the corridor, and it was very quiet.
Suddenly, Bethan stopped in front of a ward.
Through the slightly ajar door, she saw her husband Hugh standing by the bed, holding a woman in his arms.
Presumably, this was Megan, the woman Hugh had loved for so many years.
She’d heard the name before, but this was the first time she’d seen Megan.
Megan was sitting on the edge of the bed, with her back to the door. She wrapped her arms around Hugh’s waist and buried her face in his chest. Her long hair cascaded like a waterfall over Hugh’s arms.
