Chapter 406 Taking Advantage
Hearing Logan’s words, Bethan scoffed coldly.
Harvey hadn’t changed a bit—still arrogant and overbearing.
She was about to refuse when Hugh spoke first, “Go back and tell him-it’s unnecessary.”
Logan looked troubled, refusing to leave. “Mr. Cavill, Sir Cavill gave a direct order. You must persuade Ms. Olsen to come.”
Vincent hesitated, turning to Hugh. “Hugh, it was our fault for calling off the engagement suddenly. Even though it’s in the past, we never apologized to your parents. Since your grandfather asked, we should go have a talk.”
As soon as he finished, Logan jumped in. “Exactly! I’ll go inform Sir Cavill right away.”
Hugh’s eyes fixed on Bethan, his gaze complex and unreadable.
She stood silently, her mind racing.
She knew what the Cavill men were like-even if she refused now, they’d find another way to drag her into it.
Better to go, get everything out in the open once and for all.
Pulling Hugh into a separate room. Rothen anal
“Hugh, you see how angry your grandfather gets when you are closer to us. For everyone’s sake, you should stay away from my family and me from now on.”
Hugh’s voice was as gentle as possible. “Bethy, my family’s
opinions don’t represent mine. I promise I won’t let them trouble you.”
In his past life, he’d failed to protect her.
This time, he’d never let her get hurt again.
Bethan shook her head, knowing it was useless to argue. “We’ll see tonight.”
A few hours later, Bethan and her parents arrived at the hotel as promised.
Hugh greeted them at the door, his gaze scanning the group. “Where’s Barry?”
“We’re not here for a meal-why would I bring him?” Bethan shot back coldly.
Hugh fell silent, at a loss for words.
At the private room door, Bethan looked inside-only three people were there, and Gwen was missing.
Fiona stood up to greet them, while Hugh led Bethan’s parents into the room.
Harvey and Ryan sat at the table, ignoring them completely.
Glancing at them, Fiona sighed in dissatisfaction.
Hugh pulled out chairs for Bethan’s parents. “Please, sit.”
Ryan’s veins bulged on his forehead. “Your grandfather and
I froze your accounts to keep you from wasting money-you couldn’t access your own funds!
“The Olsens were being hounded by creditors, so you stole cash from the company account. The timing and amount match perfectly-you can’t lie to me!”
“I won’t admit it unless you show me proof,” Hugh said firmly.
Bethan turned to him, frowning.
The year the Olsen family went bankrupt, she’d just started college.
The day creditors showed up at their door, she’d run to Hugh, crying.
Back then, he’d been studying while learning to manage the company with his father—he’d had no real power.
Hugh had comforted her, saying he had money in his account, had secretly paid off the debts, and told her not to tell anyone.
But his accounts had already been frozen by his grandfather.
That money hadn’t been his own; he’d embezzled it to help her family.
Rude as ever, Ryan jabbed a finger at Vincent. “You made my son lend you a hand moving. Do you have any idea how valuable my son is? Can you even pay him for his time?”
That set Vincent’s temper off. “Mr. Ryan Cavill, you’re way out of line. Sure, we’re thankful for Hugh’s kindness, but we have never tried to take advantage of you!”
