Amid the incessant whispers of the crowd, Megan stood there, looking extremely aggrieved. She wrung her hands in front of her, a look of discomfort etched on her face.

Two staff members promptly stepped forward to escort Megan out.

However, she evaded them and suddenly rushed towards Fiona.

With tears streaming down her face, she grabbed Fiona's hands. "Mrs. Cavill, I know Sir Cavill thought my family was too poor for Hugh. I just came back to catch up with him. I mean no harm. Could you ask Hugh to have a private chat with me?"

Megan's words sent another ripple of hushed gasps through the crowd.

Bethan, standing calmly at the back of the crowd, didn't even bother to glance at Hugh's reaction. Instead, she silently observed Megan's act.

Megan deliberately got familiar with Fiona in public and took the opportunity to mention that the reason she and Hugh broke up was because of the Cavill family elders.

In other words, she publicly declared herself as Hugh's ex-girlfriend, making it seem like they were a tragic couple torn apart by Harvey.

Bethan had already guessed why Hugh was acting so oddly.

Meanwhile, Hugh, standing beside Bethan, kept his eyes fixed on her, not missing any slightest change in her expression.

Without even realizing it, he took a step closer and tentatively reached out to hold her hand.

But Bethan casually tossed her hair and smoothly avoided his grasp.

Hugh's hand lingered in the air for a moment before slowly dropping. His eyes dimmed with disappointment.

With a smile, Fiona responded to Megan's plea, "Ms. Ridley, you saved my son's life, but you can't force him to marry you as repayment, right?"

The onlookers suddenly understood. "So she's Mr. Cavill's savior," they murmured.

Megan briefly locked eyes with Fiona but quickly looked away.

Seeing that Megan was about to be rebuffed by Fiona, Bethan subtly signaled Yvonne.

Yvonne quickly stepped in to defuse the situation. "Mrs. Cavill, since she's Mr. Cavill's savior, she's one of us. It's Bethan and Mr. Cavill's birthday today. All guests are welcome to stay and have a slice of cake."

As soon as Yvonne finished speaking, Megan turned back to Hugh.

Tears streaming down her face, she blurted out, "Hugh, you know I never expected anything in return when I risked my life to save you. I meant it."

Hugh glanced at Bethan, then said to Megan expressionlessly, "If you claim you're not using the favor to get something from me, how do you explain taking 60 million dollars from my grandfather behind my back?"

Hugh's sudden mention of the money caught Megan off guard. She stood there, stunned.

Under the strange looks from the crowd, she quickly regained her composure.

Looking a mix of shocked and extremely aggrieved, she scanned the crowd with tear-filled eyes and said to Hugh, "Hugh, your grandfather forced me to take that money. He threatened my family. I haven't spent a single cent of it. Believe me or not!"
