Chapter 438 Let's Get Engaged
She'd planned to make up an excuse to dodge it, but never expected the whole family already knew.
Without a second thought, she blurted out, "This has nothing to do with Mason. I forced him!"
Ryan, fuming mad, raised his hand to strike Gwen. "You idiot!"
Hugh stepped in front of his sister. Ryan pointed at him and snapped, "Get out of the way!"
However, Hugh stayed calm. "Since our family was eager for a union with the Martin family before, Gwen and Mason being together should be just what you want. Why are you so worked up, Dad?"
Ryan's forehead veins popped with anger. "The Martin family has publicly announced that the Cruise family's heiress is Mason's fiancée. If the Cruise family comes after this, what'll happen to Gwen?
"The Cruise family has been our family's friends for ages. Your grandpa and Sir Cruise are old pals. How do you think your grandpa can explain this to them?"
Just then, Mason walked in, supporting his grandma, Claudia Martin.
Behind them were his parents, his elder brother, Milton Martin, and his brother's wife, Helen Martin.
Seeing Mason bring his whole family, Hugh stepped forward to greet them.
Mason was a responsible man with his own ideas and was very tolerant of Gwen. He was the right guy for her.
Amanda stepped forward with a big smile. "Mr. Ryan Cavill, you don't need to explain anything. We will handle the Cruise family and make sure it won't mess up the friendship between the two families."
The more Amanda looked at Gwen, the more she liked her. She could barely hide her joy.
"We're here to apologize for our son. You're showing your happiness too much. Tone it down a bit," Mason's father, Donald Martin, whispered.
"Yeah, Mom. Save your smiles for home," Milton joked.
Hugh helped Claudia onto the sofa. Fiona invited the others into the living room.
Mason went over to Gwen, gently pushed aside her hair to check her face. "You weren't hit, were you?"
Gwen punched his chest a couple of times. "Who asked you to come? If Grandpa breaks your legs, I won't be able to protect you."
Mason held her hand. "I'm your future fiancé now. Your grandpa won't touch me."
Then he let go of Gwen and walked up to the elders. Right in front of everyone, he slapped himself.
Ryan's face darkened. "Mr. Martin, what on earth are you doing?"
The room was solemn when Claudia spoke first, "Harvey, Mason made a big mistake. We came here to apologize sincerely. Even if you want to hit him hard, we won't say a word."
Mason's parents followed her and spoke up right away, "Mason really wronged Gwen. You can name your terms, and we'll try our best to meet them."
The Martins' grand gesture meant a lot. It showed respect clearly, and they tried to fix the rift—offering the Cavills a way out and a goodwill token.
Seeing the moment was right, Hugh rose from his seat. "Grandpa, since the Martins are all here, I think it's only fair that Gwen and Mason sort out their own business."
Mason, his eyes locked on Gwen, didn't waste a beat. "Gwen, let's get engaged," he blurted out.
Gwen reached out to take Mason's hand. "Don't worry. I never go back on my word. I'm all in. I'm gonna marry you."
The Martins in the room exchanged knowing looks. The tension faded, and they all let out quiet sighs, clearly relieved.
Helen whispered, "Ms. Cavill is a catch, no doubt about it. Gorgeous, comes from a great family, and she's still young! Mason's got some serious luck on his side."
Amanda let out a nervous chuckle and patted her chest to calm her racing heart. "Thank heavens! This wild boy's finally found someone who can handle him."
Donald, ever the realist, nudged her gently. "Slow down. Mason's still a bit free-spirited. Let's just hope the Cavills don't decide to send him back."
