Chapter 450 Chaos Reigned
In a daze, Hugh found himself downstairs without a clear memory of how he got there.
Sliding into his car, he lit cigarette after cigarette, the burning embers contrasting the growing darkness of his mood. When the pack finally ran empty with not a single cigarette left to shake out, Hugh slumped tiredly over the steering wheel, his heart throbbing with a dull pain.

The following morning, Gwen decided it was the perfect day for a shopping jaunt.
She reached out to Bethan, and soon they were strolling hand-in-arm along the downtown pedestrian street.
Gwen broke the silence with a little nudge to Bethan's arm. "Bethan, last night, there were so many people there. Never got a chance to have a proper chat with you. How about we hit up that trendy diner for lunch? I've heard loads about it."
Bethan, having nothing better to do, smiled and responded, "Sure thing! My turn to pay."
And truth be told, she also had a few things on her mind she wanted to ask Gwen about.
"Jessica?"
Just then, Gwen's sharp eyes caught sight of Jessica and a small group striding purposefully towards a fancy-looking beauty salon.
It clicked in her head that this was the very place owned by Maria.
Gwen's face lit up with excitement. Grabbing Bethan's hand tightly, she said, "Bethan, this is gonna be juicy! Let's hightail it over there and see what's going on."
Bethan was utterly bewildered but let herself be dragged across the road.
Outside Marianne Beauty Studio, Gwen was about to charge right in when Bethan quickly grabbed her sleeve, holding her back.
Spotting a discreet corner, they slipped into it and peeked out curiously.
It was a bit past ten in the morning, and the salon was abuzz with activity.
Inside, Jessica, Sarah, and Sarah's sisters walked in with an air of authority.
Megan had just been released by the police recently and was helping at the salon like her aunt asked. As soon as she saw Sarah and her crew storm in, she shrank back behind the cashier desk.
Some of the salon staff and a few customers stopped what they were doing and started to gather around, a mix of curiosity and unease on their faces.
Megan, trying to sound brave, spoke up, "Mrs. Field, what's all this about? Bringing a whole posse here?"
Sarah scoffed and snapped, "Don't you think your aunt can turn into a fancy lady just because she's knocked up with my husband's kid?"
Nervously, Megan shifted her gaze around the room.
Hidden from view behind a curtain, Bethan couldn't help but frown.
Memories of her past life flashed before her eyes. Back then, Maria only managed to marry into the Field family after her divorce from Hugh.
It was clear as day now that Maria and Bradley had been having an affair way before.
Surrounded by a sea of onlookers, customers and staff alike, and with Sarah having zero evidence, Megan was determined not to give in.
Two women by Sarah's side rolled up their sleeves menacingly. "What's the point of jaw-jacking with this slut? If she doesn't spill where that bitch Maria is hiding, we'll beat it out of her."
Before the words even died down, they charged towards the cash register. One grabbed Megan by her hair and the other by her collar, dragging her out.
Upstairs in the salon's main hall, chaos reigned.
Meanwhile, Bethan and Gwen edged closer silently, their curiosity piqued as they spied on the scene from behind the curtain.
Megan was overpowered and pinned to the floor by the group of women. Her face was a bloody mess from the relentless slaps, and she was completely helpless.
She wailed for help, but no one came to her rescue.
The customers were well-acquainted with Sarah and Jessica, and they preferred to stay on the sidelines rather than get involved.
In a last-ditch effort, Megan threatened, "You can't just come in here and beat me up in broad daylight. This is a felony, and I'll call the cops on you."
Hearing this, Sarah let out a derisive laugh.
She tossed her designer handbag aside, crouched beside Megan, yanked her hair, picked up a slipper from the floor, and started whaling on Megan's face.
When Sarah finally stopped, exhausted from the assault, Megan's face was unrecognizable.
She lay limp on the floor, a broken and bloodied mess.
