Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 74

Chapter 74 Come home with me

Bethan cracked open the door.

The moment she laid eyes on Hugh, her initial urge was to slam it shut.

But Hugh was lightning-fast. Just as Bethan was about to close the door, he pushed it wide open and stepped into the room.

It’d been a week since their last encounter after three years of marriage. They stood there, locking eyes.

Bethan squirmed under Hugh’s stare and snapped, her face as cold as ice. “What do you want?”

She’d already signed the divorce papers, and a cool billion dollars had landed in his account. Megan was chomping at the bit to take her place with their kid. Bethan figured Megan had told Hugh everything.

There was no point in seeing each other now, except to finalize the divorce.

Hugh quickly scanned the single dorm.

He strolled up to Bethan, fished out a diamond necklace

from his pocket, and said, “Got this for you on my business trip. Let me put it on you.”

Bethan shot out her arm to block his hand and took a

step back. “Hugh, after three years of marriage, there’s no need to put on this act with me.’

Hugh frowned slightly. Then he bent down and gently placed the necklace on the coffee table.

In a weary, deep voice, he said, “Bethan, it’s not what you think between me and Megan.”

Bethan didn’t wanna bring it up, but she couldn’t stand Hugh’s two-faced act.

Holding back the pain in her heart, she lashed out, “You say it’s not what I think. Well, let me ask you this. Was it all a lie when you told me you’d be away for a month, then rented out the whole beach for your precious woman and kid, set up a yacht, flowers, and a homemade blueberry cake? And that mushy Instagram post?”

Hugh unlocked his phone, opened Instagram, and thrust

minute. Just a minute.”

When Megan first returned to the States, Hugh did have some conflicting feelings.

But he’d never considered divorce.

He’d realized he no longer had those old feelings for

Megan.

Even though months had passed, Bethan’s heart still ached when Hugh owned up to it. “Even if it was just minute, it still happened.”

Before Hugh could get a word in, Bethan continued, “We’ve been married for three years, but in these few months, you’ve done more for Megan than in all our time together.”

Hugh opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Bethan fought back her tears as she said, “Huggie, for the sake of my loving you for over twenty years, can we just end this on good terms?”

His outstretched hand dropped limply. Looking straight into Bethan’s eyes, he said, “Bethan, I know you’ve got the wrong idea about me, and also Megan and her son. I’ve told them to move out of our home. I’ll keep my distance from them so you don’t have to think too much.”

Hugh paused for a beat, then reached out to Bethan again. “Bethan, stop being mad at me. Come home with me.”

Bethan firmly shook off his hand. “I can tell love from the little things. I can feel how much you love Megan and her son. You said you gotta take responsibility for them, and they make you happy. It’s best if we just get divorced and you can be one big happy family.”

They stared at each other. Hugh could clearly see the despair and sadness in Bethan’s eyes.

His heart clenched. He stepped forward and took Bethan’s hands in his.
