Fiona came to greet him at the door but immediately noticed something wrong. “Where’s Bethy? Why didn’t she come back with you?”

“She went abroad for a break,” Hugh replied casually, brushing it off.

Ryan’s face darkened. “In three days, Madam Davis from Huvale Group is celebrating her 80th birthday. She specifically asked to see Bethan. Now is not the time for her to be off relaxing somewhere.”

Hugh turned to Harvey. “She lost her job at the hospital and hasn’t been in a good place. I doubt she’s in the mood to attend a birthday celebration.”

Harvey, seated at the head of the sofa with his cane in hand, looked grim. “Everything I’ve done was for your own good. She’s the wife of the Cavill Group’s CEO-not some nurse’s aide. What kind of image does that send?”

Rygn barked, “Call Bethan right now and tell her to com home immediately!”

“She’s not coming back. Bethan gave up everything to Megan and her son,” a voice snapped from the doorway.

“Bethan sold her mother’s heirloom jewelry to pay him off, then gave their home to Megan and her son. She didn’t go abroad to clear her head. Hugh and Megan forced her to leave!”

“Gwen, shut up!” Hugh stood abruptly, his tone low and threatening.

Terrified, Gwen shrank back behind Fiona. “It’s true! He went to the Olsen family’s house last night to beg Bethan to come back and got thrown out!”

Hugh tilted his head back and took a deep breath.

Ryan looked like he was about to explode. “Unbelievable. You wrecked our entire household over some woman,

and you still tried to cover it up!”

Fiona collapsed back onto the sofa, pressing a hand to her chest. “Hugh, I’m telling you right now-even if you and Bethy do divorce, that woman and her kid are never stepping foot into this family!”

Harvey, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke and it was nothing short of a threat, “Don’t forget what you promised me. If Bethan divorces you because of those two, I will personally make sure they regret ever crossing this family.”

Hugh inhaled slowly, then said with measured calm, “Grandpa. Mom. Dad. Don’t worry. I’m not divorcing Bethan.”

Gwen was so angry that she was shaking. “So you’ve been dragging your feet this whole time… just to protect Megan and her son?”

She turned and ran out of the living room, tears in her eyes. “I’m calling Bethan. I’m going to make sure she never forgives you!”

Hugh watched her storm off, a deep crease forming between his brows.

Fiona looked between Harvey, Ryan, and Hugh, her voice rising. “Hugh, she flew all the way to another country on her own, and you, her husband, didn’t even go after her? If something happens to her out there, how do you expect to face her parents?”

“I’ve booked a flight to Canada tonight,” Hugh said. “I’ll bring her back tomorrow.”

He had let her get too far. She actually had the guts to leave the country without saying a word.
