Chapter 76 Take the Peace Offering

Seeing this, Bethan sprang to her feet. “Hugh, don’t tell me you’re planning to stay here?”
Hugh, with a gloomy look on his face, corrected her. “We’re husband and wife. Shouldn’t we sleep together?”
Bethan pointed at the door. “Go to your true love. Don’t mess up my bed!”
Before her words faded, Hugh grabbed her around the waist and lifted her off the ground.
Calmly, he asked, “Do you want to go to bed now, or do you want me to carry you onto the helicopter? You choose.”
Bethan, in a fit of rage, pounded on him. “Hugh, if you force me, I’ll kill myself!”
Hugh laid Bethan on the bed and covered her with the quilt. “I know you’re mad at me. I’m not that much of a jerk. I won’t touch you.”

Even though he desired her deeply, he wouldn’t use force.
Hugh reached out and turned off the bedside lamp. Then he lay down beside Bethan and pulled her into his arms through the quilt.
He nuzzled closer to her and mumbled, “Stop being stubborn. Let me get some sleep.”
No matter how much Bethan struggled, Hugh kept his eyes shut, silent and unyielding.
Gradually, she wore herself out and gave up.
After three years of sleeping together, there was no point in being overly coy.
Bethan lay stiffly in bed, wide-awake with anger.
Throughout their relationship, whenever they had a fight, Hugh had only two ways to placate her-either make love to her or buy her gifts.
Even now, when she wanted a divorce, Hugh was still acting like this.

He was the one who brought up the topic, yet he was also the one who avoided discussing it in the end.
The more Bethan ruminated on the matter, the angrier
she became.
Restlessly, she wriggled herself into a sitting position. Beside her, Hugh lay in a deep slumber, showing no sign of waking up. In the faint light filtering through the window, Bethan leaned over to look at him.
The sight of his peaceful sleep only stoked the fire of her
anger.
Early the next morning, Bethan woke up on the couch and made her way to the bedroom bathroom to freshen up. Just as she entered, Hugh emerged after his own
wash.
Bethan shot him a cold glare and strode into the bathroom. “Since you’re awake, just leave me alone.”
Hugh stood in front of the sink, watching Bethan in the mirror. “Madam Davis of Huvale Group turns eighty the day after tomorrow. She personally invited you to her Birthday party. You’re coming back with me.”

Bethan turned off the faucet and grabbed a face towel. “I’ve got work. No time for that nonsense.”
Hugh paused for a moment. “If you really want to work, I’ll set you up in a hospital when we get back. I promise Grandpa won’t interfere.”
Bethan rolled her eyes at him. “Hugh, I’m done relying on you and letting you control my life.
“Just call me when it’s time to get the divorce certificate. You’re so busy with your work and that mother-son duo. Don’t waste your time on me.”
Hugh got a bit annoyed. “Bethan, I came to pick you up because I take responsibility for our marriage. Don’t be so stubborn. Take the peace offering I’m giving you.”
Bethan stood firm. “From now on, I’ll avoid any path you’re on. I don’t need your so-called peace offerings.”
She then reminded him, “Shut the door on your way out.”
Ignoring Hugh’s attempts to stop her, Bethan gathered her things and left for work.

from her place.
Bethan spent the whole day at the hospital, not even going back during lunch.

Hugh sent her a message, but she didn’t bother to reply.
She knew he was swamped with work and wouldn’t have the time to stick around and bug her.
When work ended in the evening, as soon as Bethan stepped out of the hospital, she noticed a group of her female colleagues huddled together.
