“For your future, I had no choice but to break up with you. And your grandpa, to cut our ties for good, forced me to marry some guy overseas.”

Megan’s voice trembled with sobs.

“I suffered domestic violence for six long years. I had several miscarriages because of the beatings. Even Hudson was born after I was raped by that man. Even so, I didn’t dare to come back for fear of dragging you down.

“Hugh, I did all this for you willingly. I really had no choice but to come back. I never meant to break up your

marriage.

“I’m just so scared. If your grandpa finds out that Hudson isn’t your biological son, he’ll do to us what he did six years ago. He’ll either send us abroad again or force me to marry another good-for-nothing. I’d rather die than live in constant fear!”

Suddenly, with a thud, Megan fell to the ground.

Looking up at him, she pleaded, “Hugh, for the sake of our past, for all the sacrifices I’ve made for you, please don’t tell your wife about Hudson’s real identity.”

Hugh stood still, his eyes wandering.

Seeing that Hugh didn’t answer right away, Megan started to panic.

She cried and begged, “Hugh, your grandpa destroyed my life to keep us apart. All my misfortunes are because of you. My life has already been ruined. I just want to start a new life with my son. Please, have mercy on us and keep this a secret. I’m begging you!”

Hugh’s face was extremely gloomy.

He grabbed Megan’s arm and pulled her up forcefully.

After a long silence, he said, “I promise, I won’t say a

word.”

Hugh’s compromise made Megan stop crying and smile through her tears. “Hugh, don’t worry. I’ll try not to bother you anymore. I won’t let your wife misunderstand as again.”

Hugh nodded absent-mindedly. “Get some rest. I’ll step out for a bit.”

Then he quickly pushed past Megan and left the ward.

Everything they said in the ward was clearly heard by Mason outside.

Mason pulled Hugh to a corner of the corridor. “Can’t you see she’s doing this on purpose?”

Hugh replied, “Megan has sacrificed so much for me. I can’t say no to her.”

Mason asked, “So, are you going to divorce Bethan?”

Hugh glanced at Mason. “I’m not divorcing Bethan.”

Not wanting to talk about this topic anymore, Hugh headed for the doctor’s office.

Mason followed behind. “Hugh, you’ve abandoned your wedding home and lost your wedding ring for Megan and her son. Next, you’ll lose Bethan!”

Mason trailed after Hugh relentlessly. “I’m just speaking the truth, but you don’t wanna listen,” he grumbled.

Mason spoke up, “Your sister caught wind that you went to the hospital to look after Megan. She hopped on a flight overseas to spill the beans to Bethan.”

Hugh couldn’t help but frown. “Why didn’t you stop her?”

Mason shot back, “To be honest, I’m kinda hoping Bethan divorces you.”

That left Hugh speechless.

The next noon in Canada, Gwen stepped out of the hotel and hailed a cab to the hospital where Bethan worked.
