Chapter 83 They’d Barely Talked
After work, Hugh drove to the neighborhood where Bethan’s parents lived.
He parked his car by the roadside, unbuckled his seat-belt, and stared at the divorce lawyer’s letter on the
passenger seat.
Since he went to Canada to bring Bethan back and she tossed the wedding ring and refused to come with him, they’d barely talked.
Their WhatsApp history was still stuck on the message he’d sent her the night he left.
He thought they were both taking time to cool off.
But no, she’d hired a lawyer to push for a divorce.
Through the car window, he saw a taxi pull up right in front of his.
Bethan stepped out, looking gorgeous in an early-autumn beige three-quarter-sleeve belted A-line skirt. The wind 1/6,

Hugh just gawked at Bethan, whom he hadn’t seen in ages, swallowing hard.
He glanced at the divorce letter on the seat, opened the car door, and stepped out.
Over a month had passed since they last laid eyes on each other. One stood at the front of the car, the other at the
back.
Across a distance of just a few feet, they stared wordlessly at each other.
At the sight of Hugh, Bethan felt no inclination to start a
chat.
Without a flicker of emotion, she averted her gaze and turned to head towards the community gate.
Hugh reached out to block her path and, instinctively, his voice softened. “Why didn’t you let me know? I could’ve picked you up at the airport.”
Bethan took a small step back, looked up, and locked eyes with him.

Calmly, she pulled her hand away. “You should’ve gotten the letter from the divorce lawyer. My attorney will handle all the divorce stuff with you.”
Hugh regarded Bethan with a complicated look in his eyes. “Tomorrow is the festival. I’ll come pick you up in the evening, and we can have dinner at Cavill Manor.”
By deliberately dodging the divorce topic, Hugh made Bethan’s expression turn even colder.
Glancing at the boy running out of the community gate, she flat-out refused, “No way.”
Irritation flashed across Hugh’s otherwise composed face.
He stepped forward and was about to grab Bethan’s arm when Barry rushed over and pulled her to the side.
Barry shot Hugh a dirty look and then smiled at Bethan, “Bethan, Mom and Dad sent me down to welcome you.”
Not bothering with Hugh anymore, Bethan pushed her suitcase towards Barry. “Let’s go.”

Hugh stood still, his outstretched arm slowly dropping to his side.
He stared blankly as Bethan and Barry vanished through the community gate, stunned for a moment.
That night at the Regal Club on the third floor, Hugh pushed the door open and scowled when he saw Gwen. “What’s a young girl like you doing here so late?”
Gwen hid behind Mason. “Grandpa told me to tell you that since it’s a holiday tomorrow, you should take Bethan back to Cavill Manor for dinner.”
Hugh nodded and mumbled an “okay”.
Gwen was reluctant to leave. Mason picked up her bag and coaxed her out. “Hugh, hold on. I’ll send your sister to the door.”
Shortly after Mason dragged Gwen out of the private room, Megan knocked and entered.
At the sight of Megan, Hugh’s eyes darkened.

Megan quickly explained, “Hugh, don’t get the wrong idea. I just saw you here when I passed by. Just saying hi, and I’ll be off.”
Hugh nodded, clearly in a gloomy mood.
Megan inched closer tentatively. “Hugh, Hudson’s been talking about you these days. It’s his day off tomorrow. Can we have a meal together?”
Hugh swirled the wine in his glass absent-mindedly. “It’s a holiday tomorrow. I gotta go to my elders’ place with my wife.”
As she heard that Bethan had returned, Megan’s smile froze for a split second before she regained her
composure.
Megan forced a smile. “Great that your wife’s back. Well, I won’t interrupt your family reunion then.”
After saying that, Megan left the private room gracefully.
