ELIJAH’S POV:
A FEW DAYS LATER:
“That’s all for the day?” I questioned my assistant, trying to tear my eyes from the screen in front of me where I had to review a bunch of documents uploaded to the company’s server.
She didn’t respond though she was standing by the door, so I darted my eyes to her and only to meet her staring at me with a dead look that yelled ‘unbelievable’.
“Yes sir and it is now currently past 8 and your parents and your fiancé have been calling as your cousin is arriving…” She trailed off when she saw the expression on my face.
“Apologies sir for my tone sir and I totally meant Miss Janet.” She instantly corrected and I could see the remorseful yet tired look on her face.
“You’re dismissed.” I simply said dryly, darting my eyes back to the screen in front of me and letting out a breath.
I was starting to think that every time she ‘accidentally’ mentioned Janet either as my wife or fiancée then quickly corrected herself, it was all a lie and it was just a devious plan orchestrated by my mum or Janet to instill in my thought that I should propose and make Janet my wife but sadly for them, it wasn’t working.
I loved having Janet around me sometimes, but I didn’t love her. How could I love her when her sister’s innocent eyes, gorgeous face, delicate skin was printed at the back of my mind and I just wanted to see her once again, go on my knees and plead for her forgiveness for how horribly I treated her. After the night, I made a vow to myself to never get wasted but I do occasionally have a drink especially a night like tonight where both my family and the Jones would be present and all with the same question in mind.
When is the wedding? When are we making the official move? While I remain silent and just repeat what shuts them up.
When I first met Janet, I was hooked by her confidence unlike the other girls I had met and the others with her that night. She was confident, witty, smart, as a matter of fact, when her face turned into a smile and she flipped her silky curly hair, I was ready to get down on one knee at that moment and make her mine forever.
Flashback.
I walked out of my Maserati after fixing up my suit and handing the key to the valet who instantly grinned and grinned recognizing who I was. My childhood friend, Kyle, opened a club called X and X and it was popular. He had been inviting me over and about two weeks ago, I surprised him and I was in total awe at how magnificent it was. It has everything a night life requires, top notch drinks, privacy, beautiful ladies and strippers, music, it was perfect. So every Friday night, I made it my obligation to be there anc his smile got brighter every single time as he was always waiting for me at the entrance.
“So let me get this straight my friend here has shown you her identification for about twenty minutes, and you keep pointing out an error in it. What exactly could it be or does she look like one of those girls who would do anything for you just to get in? Do you know who we are?” A lady spoke to the security officer in the most subtle yet rudest tone I had ever heard.

“No, it’s not even like that….Miss Jones…” He stammered and I had no idea when I had paused to actually watch their interaction,
I was amazed at how she carried herself with such grace, she didn’t even raise her voice but everyone could hear her. I wondered ‘who was she?’
Just before she could say anything else, I watched Kyle rush out, and say, “Everything is verified. Apologies, you may go in now and there is a free bottle of drink of whatever your choice is waiting to be taken.”
“Good. Because you know just one live record and this place is done.” She looked at him from head to toe, and walked off with her minions following behind her and her black short dress with sequels following her bold
moves.
She turned around and I locked eyes with her brown almond eyes before she looked away after giving a smirk.
Before I could register our short interaction, Kyle was walking next to me leading me in and he muttered, “I can’t stand brats.”
I laughed and fixed up my suit, “Brats? Nah, all I could see was a confident young lady who knew her right and the power she yielded and didn’t need anyone to come stand up for her and her friends.” 1
