If Elijah is fine, why isn’t he picking up my calls? Why do every one of them go straight to voicemail?
Winona’s nerves were fraying as tears blurred her vision.
The driver tried to reassure her, saying, “Ms. Campbell, please try to stay calm. We’ll reach the airport in about forty minutes.”
“Go faster!”
The instant the vehicle pulled into the parking area, she threw the door open and rushed out, anxiety tightening in her chest as she sprinted toward the airport help desk.
“Hello, could you provide the list of injured passengers from flight MU586? I’m family. I need to check the names.”
A large group had already formed there, all waiting for the same information.
Winona held the list tightly, her eyes moving quickly as she scanned each name from top to bottom.
Relief washed over her–Elijah wasn’t listed.
“Excuse me, was there a passenger named Elijah Payne? Is he okay?”
The staff member checked carefully. “I’m sorry, ma’am. There’s no one with that name on this flight.”
“Winona!”
The moment that familiar voice reached her ears, she turned and ran toward it.
Elijah stood there with a faint smile, opening his arms to pull her close.
“Are you out of your mind? Why didn’t you answer my calls? Do you have any idea how worried I was?” Winona struck him repeatedly, prompting him to let out a soft groan,
“Hey, stop hitting me, babe. Keep that up and I might actually get hurt.”
She grabbed his collar, her voice sharp with anger. “Tell me! Did you ignore my calls on purpose? Were you trying to scare me?”
He quickly raised his hands in defense.

“That’s not true at all. My phone died. I was waiting for your message.

“I stayed at the airport from eight to twelve, and the battery just ran out. I hadn’t even bought a ticket yet. I was about to borrow a charger when you showed up.
“Babe, were you worried about me?”
Winona turned her face away, tears still clinging to her cheeks.
Without hesitation, Elijah leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to her. He carefully brushed each tear from her face. “Don’t cry. I’m right here.”
Still upset, Winona muttered, “You and Grandpa teamed up to fool me.”
He gave a quiet laugh. “Henry actually took the deal. I just wanted to see if you would come see me off. You’ve been so distant lately. It hurt more than I can say.
“I just needed to know if I still mattered to you. Winona, marry me.”
With a mischievous smile, Elijah added, “If you say no, I won’t let you go. I’ll kiss you right here until everyone’s watching, and we’ll be tomorrow’s headline. How does that sound?”
“You wouldn’t dare!”
“Winona, have a little mercy on me.”
Then, without waiting, Elijah knelt down and slid a ring onto her finger. He bowed his head and pressed a kiss to her hand. “Winona, I love you.”
After enduring such overwhelming fear, seeing him safe before her made her finally let go of her resistance.
A soft smile appeared on her lips. “Elijah, I do.”
The cheers and congratulations around them faded into the background. All she could feel was the warmth of his kiss.
When Winona returned home with Elijah, their hands intertwined, Austin let out a cold scoff.
“Henry, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, consider this a small token from me.”
As he spoke, the driver carried in ten large boxes filled with gifts.

“Austin.” Elijah finally addressed Austin.
Austin didn’t respond.

“Well, Elijah, I’ve been keeping an eye on you. I hope you treat our precious girl well from now on. If you ever hurt her, I won’t go easy on you.”
Elijah smiled. “I promise I’ll take good care of her. Words mean nothing. Henry, I’ll prove it through my actions.”
Elijah’s parents and grandfather formally visited the Campbell family to propose the marriage.
The moment Elijah’s grandfather laid eyes on the café his grandson had opened, his anger shot through the roof.
Henry quickly stepped in with a smile. “Easy now, pal. How about a game of chess?”
Elijah looked at him with gratitude.
Henry had stepped in at just the right time.
Elijah and Winona’s wedding was held on an island.
He arranged flights for all the guests, personally transporting them to the venue.
