Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 193

Why was she acting like this now?

Julian stared at Hester's sleeping form, feeling a profound sense of loss regarding their relationship and their future for the first time.

The minutes ticked by.

He didn't know how long he stood there.

It wasn't until a dull ache settled into his legs that he snapped out of his daze.

Still fast asleep, Hester shifted, turning her back to him. The movement caused the blanket to slip down her shoulders.

Julian pressed his lips together and let out a heavy sigh.

He walked over, leaned down, and gently pulled the blanket back over her.

She was sleeping so peacefully.

He gazed at her face, his eyes swirling with complicated emotions.

...

Hester woke up in the middle of the night needing to use the restroom.

Pulling off her eye mask, she noticed the main lights were off, leaving only the soft glow of a small bedside lamp.

The room was dead silent. Julian was gone.

She slipped out of bed, supported her slightly aching lower back, and walked to the bathroom.

Five minutes later, she climbed back in, pulled up the covers, closed her eyes, and drifted right back to sleep.

When she woke again, it was already ten in the morning.

She checked the time, sat in bed for a moment to fully wake up, and then got up to wash her face.

...

When Hester went downstairs, the first floor was unusually quiet.

Lena spotted her and immediately hurried over. "Ma'am, you're up! Should I bring out a warm bowl of oats for you?"

"That sounds wonderful," Hester smiled and headed toward the dining room.

She took a seat, and Lena soon emerged from the kitchen, placing a steaming bowl in front of her.

"Lena, did everyone go out?"

"Well..." Lena hesitated before answering honestly. "When Caden woke up this morning, he couldn't find his mom and started crying for her. Mr. Weston took him out. They probably went to Silverstream Villa."
