Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 216

She looked up at Poppy. "You know him?"

Poppy shook her head. "No, I don't know him at all. But Chiara gave me a heads-up beforehand. She said Mr. Weston was staying next door and she was worried... you guys might argue, so she told me to keep an eye on things and report back to her."

Hester's lips tightened into a thin line. "That's unnecessary. We are currently in our legally mandated separation period, and I'm pregnant. The worst we'll do is exchange a few heated words. Still, if he comes around again or tries to have things sent over, turn him away."

"Oh, okay, got it." Poppy chewed on the end of her fork, carefully watching Hester's expression.

Hester lowered her head and quietly sipped her savory broth, seemingly unbothered.

Thinking back to Julian's ridiculously handsome face, Poppy couldn't help but sigh wistfully. "Hester, putting all the relationship drama aside... strictly based on looks, you two are a god-tier match!"

Hester paused again, giving the girl a deadpan look. "Stop romanticizing him. If you want to obsess over a couple, go watch a reality show."

"No, hear me out!" Poppy protested. "I'm just saying, with his genetics, having a kid with him is a major win. Gorgeous people like you two have a civic duty to contribute to the gene pool. You should be having a whole squad of beautiful babies to bless society!"

Hester: "..."

Was this how Gen Z's brains worked now?

"As a mother, the only thing that matters is that the baby is safe and healthy," Hester replied flatly. "I don't care about the baby's gender or looks."

Poppy scoffed. "You don't care? Please. With the way you two look, you could give birth with your eyes closed and your kid would still be in the top twenty percent of the population!"

"Alright, let's just eat." Hester really didn't have the energy to dissect Poppy's chaotic logic, and she definitely didn't want to talk about Julian anymore.

Poppy nodded and dug into her food.

Because the spread was so massive, it took them over an hour to finish breakfast.

Poppy was a chatterbox, and sensing that Hester was completely over the topic of Julian, she smartly pivoted to harmless, entertaining gossip.

As long as Julian's name wasn't mentioned, Hester's mood remained perfectly stable.

However, considering his uninvited midnight visit, Hester had formulated a new plan.
