"It's Jett Kane!!!"
"Ahhh! Oh my god, it's really him! What is he doing in Coralton City?!"
"Jett, I love you! Look at me! Jett, we love you!"
Deafening screams from frantic young girls echoed through the entire arrivals hall.
It finally clicked for Hester—the guy she had sat next to on the plane had just been recognized by his fans.
People always talked about how terrifying celebrity fanbases could be, but seeing it in person was a whole different story.
Forced to choose between 'rescuing her phone' and 'not getting trampled,' Hester instantly chose the latter.
She practically threw herself against the far wall, putting as much distance between herself and the rabid mob as possible.
Jett Kane was a tall, athletic guy, but even he was trapped, unable to move a single inch through the crush of screaming girls.
His manager, Rona Rhodes, was desperately trying to act as a human shield, but she was completely outmatched by the sheer hysteria of the crowd.
Neither of them had anticipated running into hardcore fans in Coralton City, so they had absolutely zero security detail with them.
Thankfully, airport security arrived quickly to establish a perimeter.
With the guards' help, Jett and Rona finally managed to break through the mob and escape the terminal.
Hester stayed glued to the wall until the fanatic crowd finally dispersed. Only then did she let out a long breath, instinctively placing a protective hand over her stomach.
Thank God she was safely in her second trimester and the pregnancy was stable. A shock like that could have been disastrous.
Once her heart rate leveled out, she started scanning the floor for her phone.
An airport employee walked up to her, holding out a device. "Ma'am, is this yours?"
Hester took it and did a quick check. The screen protector was completely shattered, but the phone itself seemed functional.
She offered the worker a polite smile. "Yes, it is. Thank you."
"Don't thank me. A gentleman picked it up during the rush. He said he saw you drop it and asked me to return it to you."
Hester frowned slightly.
She remembered that split second during the stampede when someone had grabbed her arm to keep her from falling...
She had a strong suspicion of who it might have been. She glanced around the terminal, but didn't spot anyone suspicious.
Her phone buzzed in her hand.
It was Ms. Crane.
Hester answered, pulling her suitcase toward the exit doors. "Hi, I just made it out of baggage claim..."
...
It wasn't until she slid into the passenger seat of Ms. Crane's car that Hester completely relaxed, letting out a heavy sigh.
Ms. Crane eyed her playfully. "What's with the heavy sighs? Did you not have fun in Riverton?"
Hester smiled wryly. "Riverton was fine."
Ms. Crane laughed until she wheezed. "To make someone who couldn't care less about celebrities instantly memorize his name... now that's a legendary first impression! I feel terrible for you, though. Dealing with a rabid fanbase while pregnant? You're a survivor."
She reached over and gave Hester's arm a comforting pat. "Sorry you and the baby had such a scare."
Hester laughed, the lingering stress finally washing away. "It's fine, really. I'm over three months along now, so this is the easiest, most stable part of the pregnancy."
"True, you aren't showing much yet, and that awful first-trimester nausea usually fades by now." Ms. Crane let off the brake and hit the gas as the light turned green. "Which means you should absolutely take advantage of this time to have fun and clear your head."
Hester watched the coastal scenery blur past the window, a soft smile touching her lips. "Yeah. That's exactly what I'm going to do."
...
By the time they arrived, Jett Kane and Rona Rhodes had already settled in.
Hester was returning to her original room. Ms. Crane had already had the housekeeper thoroughly clean it that morning, so it was ready for her.
Technically, Rona had paid to rent out the entire property, but Ms. Crane had already communicated with Rona, claiming Hester was her cousin who was staying there for bed rest during her pregnancy.
Rona couldn't exactly kick out a pregnant relative of the owner. She just sternly demanded that Hester never leak Jett's location online and stay out of their way during his vacation.
Ms. Crane had happily agreed to all of it.
...
On her first day back in Coralton City, Hester's only goal was to rest.
Aside from grabbing meals, she spent the entire day holed up in her room.
