Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 229

“Why are you being so cruel to him?” Julian’s voice cracked with raw frustration. “I know you despise Seraphina, but Caden is just a little boy! He hasn’t recovered his memories yet. In his mind, you are the closest thing he has to a mother.”

“I told you before, Julian. Emotional blackmail doesn’t work on me anymore.”

Hester took a slow, deep breath, forcing herself to remain somewhat civil. “He’s young. If he needs psychiatric help, put him in therapy. Lying to him and enabling his delusions isn’t protecting him—it’s destroying him. I am not his mother, and I am not obligated to sacrifice my peace for him.”

Her words were lethal, coated in absolute finality.

Watching her refuse to yield an inch, Julian’s expression darkened even further.

Deciding she had wasted enough breath, Hester turned to walk inside.

“Hester!”

Julian lunged forward, his hand snapping out to grab her wrist in a vice grip.

“Let go of me.” Hester yanked her arm, but it was useless. She glared at him, pure hatred flashing in her eyes. “How far are you going to push me before you finally back off?!”

“Stop fighting me.” Seeing her look at him like he was a monster made his chest tight with a suffocating, unbearable ache. “I already had Neil handle the situation online. Every post targeting you has been scrubbed from the internet.”

Hester’s response was a cold, mocking smirk.

“If it weren't for your precious sister-in-law, you wouldn't have had to scrub anything. You’re just cleaning up her mess so she doesn't face the consequences. Don’t expect a thank you.”

“I don’t want your gratitude.”
