Hester trusts Chiara's capability.
"So, are you planning to go back to Northwood City?" Ms. Crane asked.
"Not right now," Hester replied, taking a bite of her hard-boiled egg and washing it down with a sip of her morning tea. "My sister Chiara is coming next week, and then I'll start working. I haven't considered other cities yet. Honestly, I love the environment here. If possible, I'd like to settle down here for the next few years."
Ms. Crane beamed. "That's perfect! You can stay right here with me. We'll keep each other company, and when the baby comes, I can help you babysit!"
Hester smiled gently. "With service like that, Ms. Crane, you're making it impossible for me to leave."
"Stay, stay!" Ms. Crane winked playfully. "By the way, what's the deal with that little boy calling Mr. Weston 'Daddy' and you 'Godmother'?"
"Caden is his older brother and sister-in-law's child," Hester explained. She paused before adding, "But five years ago, he adopted the boy under both our names without telling me. Recently, his sister-in-law returned from abroad, and he brought her and Caden back to the Weston family to officially add them to the family registry."
"However, Caden is technically still registered under my name. Which means, until Julian and I finalize the legal separation and divorce, the boy is still legally my adopted son."
"...Wait, my head is spinning. Let me process this!" Ms. Crane frowned, muttering to herself. "So, biologically, the boy should call Mr. Weston 'Uncle,' but since he adopted him, legally, he's your son?"
"Yes," Hester nodded.
"That is incredibly messy!" Ms. Crane shook her head. "Did he really not discuss it with you before adopting the child?"
"No," Hester said. "Because at the time, he felt I was emotionally unstable and wouldn't be a fit mother. So for the past five years, I had absolutely no idea I had an adopted son. Caden grew up with him and another woman."
Ms. Crane was speechless. What kind of insane logic was that?!
Before she could press further, Jasper walked over carrying a tray with warm soup, fresh greens, and a savory seafood omelet.
