Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 241

"Even you admit we're just friends," Julian said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "And since you're just a friend, you have absolutely no right to interfere in my private affairs with my wife."

"Julian, this isn't the time for a pissing contest," Jasper replied, his voice stern. "She is pregnant. Regardless of what's happening between you two, you need to put her and the baby first!"

"Hester is my wife. I take care of what's mine. I don't need you to worry about it." Julian stepped closer, his dark eyes hostile. "If you genuinely care about her, then keep your mouth shut. I don't want her knowing a single thing about what happened tonight."

Jasper frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I mean my wife is pregnant and doesn't need the stress. If you really care, stay quiet. As for her safety, I am here. It's not your place." Julian patted Jasper's shoulder. "Remember what I said."

Jasper pressed his lips into a tight line, his warm eyes studying the other man. "Do you ever think about her feelings?"

Julian was about to turn away, but he paused, his gaze drifting back to Jasper.

"You have people secretly protecting her, which means you care. So why do you constantly do things that break her heart?"

Julian's expression darkened. "Not your concern."

The night breeze swept past, rustling the falling leaves. Jasper looked up at the window of Hester's room, asking himself a difficult question. Should he tell her?

His intuition told him there were layers of hidden truths behind her broken marriage. Duty dictated that he should tell her—she was Julian's wife, and she deserved to know the truth. But a selfish voice in his heart whispered: *Don't tell her.*

Let Hester keep hating Julian. That way, she would follow through with the divorce.

Logic and selfish desire warred within him, with neither side claiming victory. That night, Jasper Kane couldn't sleep.
