Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 254

Seraphina was already on edge. Hearing Caden whine made her assume he was just throwing another tantrum.

When she had gone over to collect him earlier, he had actively fought against leaving Hester. With so many people watching, she had bitten her tongue and played the role of the gentle, loving mother, practically begging him to come back with her. She had assumed that by the time they returned, Julian would be waiting for them.

But he wasn't. And he still wasn't answering her calls.

Coupled with the humiliating dressing-down Hester had given her earlier, Seraphina's temper was a lit fuse.

"I'm going to say this one more time. Come here and eat," she demanded, her voice dropping to a dangerous hiss. "I am not in the mood for this. Get up. Now."

Caden's little body trembled. His stomach was doing violent flips, churning with a sickening mix of sharp pain and intense nausea. "Mommy, I really... I can't eat."

"Can't eat, or you just don't want to eat with *me*?!"

Seraphina completely lost it. She lunged across the room, grabbed Caden by his small arm, and yanked him roughly off the sofa. "We've only been away for a few days, and you've already forgotten who your real mother is! You ungrateful little brat!"

The sudden, violent jerk sent Caden stumbling forward. Terrified and dizzy, his stomach gave a violent lurch. Unable to hold it back any longer, he gagged and threw up everything in his system.

"Ah!"

Seraphina shrieked as the vomit splattered across her expensive dress. She instantly let go of his arm and leaped back in disgust.

Without her holding him up, Caden fell hard. His head cracked against the hardwood floor with a sickening thud, and he burst into hysterical, terrified sobs.

"My dress! You stupid child!" Seraphina screamed, stamping her foot. "Did you do that on purpose?! God, you're disgusting! You are driving me insane! You're completely useless to me, and now you're just torturing me..."

Still screaming about her ruined clothes, she bolted into the bathroom and slammed the door.

Caden lay crumpled on the floor, weeping uncontrollably.

Inside the bathroom, Seraphina cranked the shower on full blast, completely ignoring the heartbreaking wails from the other room. Her only concern was scrubbing the stench off her skin.

By the time she emerged, freshly showered and wearing a clean dress, the room was silent. Caden had stopped crying.
