Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 260

Jasper's expression instantly hardened. He stepped forward to intervene, but Hester grabbed his arm, stopping him cold.

He looked down at her, his jaw tight. "Ms. Carrington—"

"Wait outside, Jasper," Hester said, her voice perfectly level. "I'll be out as soon as I've seen Caden."

Jasper pressed his lips into a thin line. He shot Julian one last icy glare before turning on his heel and walking out, pulling the door shut behind him.

Once they were alone, Hester finally turned her attention back to her ex-husband.

"You're upset about Caden, Julian, so I'll let that pathetic comment slide. But while you're standing in front of a sick child, I suggest you start acting like a father instead of throwing a tantrum."

Julian's face darkened, the veins in his hands bulging as he clenched his fists.

He knew he had crossed a line. But seeing her walk in with Jasper, witnessing the effortless, comfortable bond between them, had set off a blind, ugly rage in his chest.

Jasper's casual use of *'we'* made Julian sick.

He hated that Hester would rather spend her time with another man than come home. Most of all, he hated the impenetrable, icy wall she had built between them.

Julian's jaw flexed. He looked at her calm, indifferent face and found he couldn't force a single word out.

At that moment, Seraphina dramatically wiped her eyes and sniffled. "Hester... please don't be mad at him. Julian is just heartbroken over Caden. He didn't mean to lash out at you."

Hester didn't even acknowledge her existence.

She wasn't going to waste her breath arguing with Julian. She was here as Caden's godmother, and her only concern was the boy.
