"Whether she refuses me or not is a matter between husband and wife," Julian's gaze grew frigid. "You are merely her retained attorney. You have no right to interfere with how we communicate."
Jasper frowned, about to retort, but Hester cut in first. "Jasper, just go back. There's no point in arguing over this. Once I know Caden is okay, I'll leave too."
Hearing this, Jasper looked at her.
His expression was serious, holding a trace of concern and an undercurrent of emotion that was hard to decipher.
After a moment, he sighed.
"I'll wait for you in the car, then," he said. Without sparing another glance at Julian, he turned and headed straight for the elevators.
Knowing she couldn't talk him out of it, Hester simply let him be.
Watching the elevator doors close behind him, she pulled her gaze away and walked toward the adjacent family lounge.
Julian followed her.
The moment the lounge door clicked shut behind them, Seraphina's crying in the neighboring hospital room abruptly ceased.
She stared at that closed door, her eyes brimming with sheer malice!
...
Inside the family lounge, Hester surveyed the space.
She settled onto the sofa and lifted her eyes to the man standing by the entrance.
"I'll be honest with you," she began. "I think there's something suspicious about Caden's injury."
Julian met her gaze. "This is his second head trauma. It's highly probable he's regained his memories."
"And if he has, what do you plan to do?"
"The abuse he suffered from his nanny took a severe psychological toll." Julian paused before adding, "We'll have to wait until Dr. Fuller assesses him before making any decisions."
