Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 269

"True, I did hear she suffers from depression," Jasper analyzed thoughtfully. "If she's dealing with a severe mental health issue, having an episode and losing control of her actions isn't impossible."

"Depression?" Hester sneered. "Does she look like someone battling depression to you?"

Jasper hesitated, taking in the cynical smirk on her face. After a few seconds, realization dawned on him. "Are you saying she faked the diagnosis?"

"Yes."

"If she isn't mentally ill, yet she's vicious enough to beat her own son... is she really his biological mother?"

Hester froze, a thoughtful gleam entering her eyes.

"If she really is physically abusing him," Jasper pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, "and her depression is entirely fabricated, shouldn't we tell Julian?"

Pulling herself from her thoughts, Hester replied flatly, "There's no need."

"Why not?"

"Because he likely already knows."

Jasper was stunned again, his surprise quickly giving way to deep confusion. "If he knows, why does he keep defending her?"

"He always has his reasons." She rubbed her aching temples. "Right now, I only care about Caden recovering. Everything else? I couldn't care less."

If Julian refused to tell her, why should she break her back trying to force it out of him?

She would settle her own scores with Seraphina using her own methods. As for the deeper, darker conspiracy, if he wanted to play his cards close to his chest, she would let him.

Once the baby was born, they would officially divorce and go their separate ways. No matter how many secrets he harbored, they would no longer be her problem.

Her phone buzzed in her bag.

She pulled it out and saw it was Fiona. She answered immediately, bringing the phone to her ear. "Dr. Fuller."
