Hester offered a small, self-deprecating smile. "Even though I can't stomach his existence, I'm going to be a mother myself. I wouldn't stoop so low as to take my anger out on a child."

Gael looked at her like she was an absolute idiot. "Did you really think I was worried you'd attack the kid?"

Hester blinked in surprise. "Then what?"

"Please!" Gael rolled her eyes, then cast a pointed glance at Hester's stomach and sighed. "I'm worried that the apple doesn't fall far from the trashy tree. You're not exactly moving solo right now."

"You think a five-year-old is going to bully me?" Hester reasoned, shaking her head. "Have you been watching too much trashy reality TV again?"

Gael paused for a moment, lost in thought, then said, “Maybe just a little.”

Hester had thoroughly laid the groundwork beforehand. She was touring the academy officially as Mrs. Weston.

Julian had donated a massive sum to the school five years ago, so when Director Warren heard that Mrs. Weston was coming for a tour, he practically rolled out the red carpet to personally welcome her.

"Mrs. Weston, as you can see, the playground equipment, the children's cots, and all the cafeteria supplies were completely funded by Mr. Weston's generous donation."

At the moment, all the children were in class.

Director Warren led Hester across the immaculate, beautifully landscaped playground. Hester listened to his relentless bootlicking in silence, her expression giving away absolutely nothing.

Noticing that she hadn't spoken a single word since arriving, Director Warren grew incredibly anxious that he was botching the tour. He quickly asked, "Mrs. Weston, do you see any areas where our academy might need improvement? Or is there anything specific you'd like to learn more about?"

"Everything here seems phenomenal." Hester finally stopped walking. She cast a brief glance toward the classrooms before turning to Director Warren. "Is the boy adjusting well to everything here?"
