“Alright.”
Hester pushed the door open and stepped out. She closed it and walked around to the front of the car.
Jasper rolled down the passenger window. “What is it?”
Hester waved at him. “I just remembered that Gigi's weak immune system might be tied to her digestion. I know an excellent traditional doctor, Dr. Coleman. You should take her to see him.”
“That would be wonderful. Do you have his contact info?”
Hester pulled out her phone. “Yes, I'll text you his business card.”
“Perfect.”
...
Hester watched the car disappear into the distance. She took a deep breath, turned around, and walked into the villa.
In the second-floor study, a tall silhouette stood by the window.
Hester entered the house, changed her shoes, and headed toward the living room.
Bella was sitting in her wheelchair. On the sofa beside her, Caden sat cross-legged, playing with a brand-new Transformer.
Bella was so mesmerized watching Caden play that she didn't even notice Hester walking in.
Hester paused, standing quietly as she watched Bella.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes passed...
Time ticked by. Bella still didn't notice her.
Julian glared at her, his eyes turning glacial. “Hester, we haven't gotten our divorce certificate yet.”
Hester thought he was out of his mind. The moment she came home, he was already picking a fight!
“Julian, I'm exhausted right now, and I don't want to argue with you.” She shot him an icy look, emphasizing her point one last time.
But Julian wasn't listening. He stepped forward, closing the distance between them, and grabbed her arm. “You are still Mrs. Weston. People are watching your every move! You shouldn't be getting so cozy with Jasper!”
“Meeting a few times is considered cozy?” Hester scoffed. “Then what about you and Melody sleeping together? What about you playing house with Caden for five whole years? Why didn't you worry about the optics then?”
“Hester!” Julian's expression darkened. He stared at her, the jealousy burning hotter in his chest. “I looked into him. Jasper has a daughter.”
Hester let out a bitter laugh. “So what?”
“You refused to be an adoptive mother to Caden, but now you're rushing to be a stepmother for Jasper?”
