Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 81

As soon as Julian hung up, he opened his mouth to speak, but Hester cut him off. "Pull over."

Julian frowned, meeting her gaze in the rearview mirror. "We aren't downtown yet. It's not safe to drop you off here."

Hester let out a cold scoff. "Mr. Weston, you should hurry up and go rescue your precious Melody. I have a ride. Don't trouble yourself."

A white car was parked by the side of the road ahead, its hazard lights blinking.

Julian saw it. It was Hester's Panamera, and the person behind the wheel was Gael. He didn't say another word and simply pulled up behind the Panamera.

Hester opened the door, stepped out, and walked over to slide into the passenger seat of her own car.

The white vehicle sped off, disappearing down the main road.

Julian withdrew his gaze and steered the Phantom toward Silverstream Villa.

...

It was already ten o'clock at night by the time Hester got back to her penthouse. She was starving, so she asked Celeste to quickly whip up a bowl of hot soup. Right now, she desperately needed to replenish her energy.

Celeste worked fast, and a steaming bowl of hearty chicken and vegetable soup was soon placed in front of Hester.

Hester buried her head and ate. She had only managed a few bites at dinner and had thrown it all up. Now, eating Celeste's cooking, it tasted like a five-star meal.

Watching her eat without pausing for breath, Gael frowned. "Did your family refuse to feed you or something?"

"Eating in that house just gives me severe indigestion," Hester said, swallowing a mouthful of warm broth with a heavy sigh. "Anyway, I'm never going back there again."

"Is your family really that terrifying?"

"It's hard to explain in a few words," Hester said, picking up her spoon. "To sum it up in one sentence: profit comes first."
