Broken Vows and Buried Twins novel Chapter 98

There had to be a hidden reason behind his injury. If he didn't want Hester to know, he definitely had his motives for keeping it a secret.

"Sabrina, I consider you a close friend. I know you're stuck in the middle, and you don't want to see Julian and me become bitter enemies who never speak again. But the only one who truly understands the pain is the one who took the hit. So please, don't try to persuade me, and don't ever bring up Julian in front of me again."

Sabrina bit her lip and nodded.

"If you like it here, you're welcome to visit whenever you want. As long as it's just you, my door is always open."

Sabrina’s eyes immediately lit up again. She threw her arms around Hester. "Who wants to talk about that jerk anyway? Forget Julian, I won't even mention Declan! From now on, we don't need those toxic men. It's just us girls thriving! I'm officially moving in with you tomorrow!"

Hester was nearly strangled to death. She was immensely grateful for her foresight in keeping the throw pillow over her stomach.

She let out a helpless sigh. "Sabrina, you can visit, but you cannot move in."

Sabrina’s face fell. She pulled back and shot Hester an offended look. "Why not?! Are you sick of me?"

"Yes. You're far too loud and dramatic. I'm worried it will negatively affect my prenatal environment."

"Oh, right! I totally forgot you have a little VIP in there!" Sabrina smacked her own forehead, her gaze dropping to Hester's stomach... which was currently shielded by the pillow.

She blinked, realizing what Hester had done, and let out an awkward laugh. "Sorry about that. I completely forgot you were pregnant for a second."

"See? Rejecting your request to move in was an incredibly wise decision."

Sabrina’s face flushed red. She scratched her head sheepishly. "Okay, okay, true. My chaotic energy probably isn't great to live with right now. But your bump is going to start showing soon. Since you're both in the same city, Julian is bound to find out eventually."

"Once the divorce papers are finalized, I'm moving abroad," Hester said, before adding a stern warning. "You cannot tell anyone about this, including Declan Reed."

"Pfft, I wouldn't tell him anyway. He wouldn't even tell me..."

Sabrina suddenly slapped a hand over her mouth, looking at Hester with pure guilt.

Hester frowned, studying her carefully. "What didn't he tell you yesterday?"

Sabrina’s brain went into overdrive, her lawyer instincts instantly kicking in to spin a flawless deflection. "Oh, just that I only found out he was back in the country yesterday! I told him he was a terrible friend for not telling me something so huge, and he just laughed at me! He said I had no right to act like one of the bros just because I'm built like a twelve-year-old boy!"

Hester stared at her. After all these years, those two really hadn't changed one bit.

It was kind of nice.

...

After breakfast, Sabrina headed off to her law firm.

Gael arrived around noon.

The raw materials issue at the Riverton factory had been fully resolved. They were on track to meet the delivery deadline.

After lunch, Hester curled up on the sofa, feeling drowsy. Gael took a phone call, then walked over and sat down beside her. "Melody is missing."
