Chapter 216 The Golden Harvest

“Natives?”

TartKing leaned in, eyes wide with curiosity “Are they like Neeko?”

‘Not exactly.”

Riley shook her head. “Neeko is a magical creature with special abilities. These people are just regular folks. They claim to be town residents who blacked out during a massive blizzard and woke up in the wastes.”

‘Doesn’t that line up with Neeko’s story? A blizzard? But how could they be out that long without freezing?” TartKing asked.

‘No idea. Probably the damn system up to its old tricks again.”

‘It’s so weird. Everything is getting more surreal, or maybe I’m just forgetting things. My dreams are getting rarer lately,” PineappleBeer sighed.

“Don’t sweat it. You said the dreams always lead to the 20th floor of the Dungeon. Once we gear up, I’ll go there with you. We’ll find your answers,” Riley comforted her.

“Deal!”

“Anyway, Riley, where are you putting them?”

“I set them up at the mine. It’s Guild territory, and I built a stone wall to keep the ghouls out. I gave them some food, and the rest is on them.”

“Hehe, Riley, do you think more survivors will show up? We could rebuild an empire on the wastes and rule as Empresses!”

Night fell.

Inside the mine.

Joseph and the two youths huddled in a worn stone room on the upper level, an Explorer’s Torch crackling between them.

The firelight bathed their grimy but hopeful faces.

Wrapped in thick wool blankets, they cradled the white bread and meat soup Riley had provided.

The younger man took a bite of bread and looked up. “Uncle, what really happened? Where is everyone from town? Where is Auntie White?”

“I don’t know, son. Being alive right now is a miracle in itself.”

Joseph let out a heavy sigh.

“It seems that Wizard… she is a merciful lord. While we patrol for her, we should look for other survivors nearby.”

“Survival is the only thing that matters now.”

Chapter 216 The Golden Härvest

The first light of dawn pierced through the glass windows.

“Chirp! Chirp!”

Ash, the little gryphon, flapped his wings and hopped along the attic railing.

Riley stepped down the stairs in her soft robe and slippers.

Reaching the hall, she found a pile of wheat neatly bundled by the dining table.

Every grain was plump, shimmering with an inviting luster in the morning sun.

Before she could inspect it, the door creaked open, and the treant marched in carrying another massive bundle.

It seemed the harvest time had arrived; she’d left it alone for a while. Whether it was the system or the seeds, the growth speed was incredible.

Riley knew crops grew fast in-game, but this was on a whole other level.

“Nice work, Little Tree!”

Riley praised him enthusiastically, handing him some common herbs from her bag as a treat before checking the grain.

With a swipe of her hand, the wheat on the floor vanished, successfully reclaimed by the system.

“Obtained: Quality Wheat x 44 lbs”

“Obtained: Wheat Seeds x 4.4 lbs”

Staring at the grain, Riley felt a profound sense of security she’d never felt before.

Chests and markets were unreliable; they were fleeting.

But this wheat, grown in her own home and harvested by hand, was her real leverage. Now, supporting a few extra mouths seemed perfectly fine.

Riley dusted the chaff off her hands, her mood soaring.

After breakfast, Riley turned her attention to her other trophy from yesterday.

“Little Tree, give me a hand.”

Riley hauled the massive 70-inch LCD TV out of her inventory.

“I want to hang this on that wall,”

She pointed to the empty space above the fireplace.

The treant looked at the black rectangle; though it had no idea what it was, its interior-design OCD compelled it to nod.

It pulled a ruler and a level from its pocket, made a few marks, and hammered in several heavy-duty nails.
