“Take them out!”

With that command, seven or eight members of Nightfall surged forward, weapons raised, like a pack of wolves closing in.
“Looking to die.”
Riley’s fingers tightened around the handles of her axes.
“Crunch!”
Her axe came down with crushing force, meeting the first grunt who rushed her head–on. The wooden shield he carried–decently sturdy–looking–splintered into fragments under the one–handed blow. At level 5, Riley’s Strength stat sat at a monstrous 24.
“Gah-!”
The guy felt a terrifying shock, like he’d been hit by a truck, rocketing up his arm. He was thrown backward, blood spraying from his mouth mid–air.
“Holy hell?!”
The buzz–cut guy behind him almost choked on his own breath.
One–handed? A single swing had one–shotted a full–health warrior with a shield?
What kind of beast was she?!
“Weren’t you running your mouth a second ago?” Riley’s expression was ice. “Let me tell you a little secret. I’m not right in the head.
“Certifiably insane.”
She lifted her axe and swung it in a wide, wild arc.
“Some bald dude tried to rob me once. Wanna know what I did to him?
“Torture ain’t against the rules here. I carved a pig’s face into his scalp with this axe. So much blood… screamed like a stuck pig. You guys wanna try next?”
Riley flashed the buzz–cut leader a twisted grin. In that moment, her smile chilled him to the
bone.

What kind of person was this?

After a long beat of hesitation, a blonde kid behind the buzz–cut guy finally cracked under the temptation of all that high–tier loot. He drew his dagger and lunged.
“No guts, no glory.”
Riley smirked, then proceeded to beat him down hard. A few brutal moves later, he was crumpled on the ground.
Across the room, PineappleBeer tilted her crossbow slightly.
Thwip!
A bolt buried itself in the kid’s skull.
“Agh-!”
His scream was cut short as his HP hit zero. His body vanished, leaving behind a supply crate right where he’d fallen.
“Aw, why’d you finish him? I wasn’t done with my artwork. Blond hair looks real pretty dyed red and gold.” Riley kept up the act, her tone almost casual.
“Jesus…”
The remaining lackeys were utterly terror–stricken by Riley’s demonic display. They stumbled back, weapons shaking, not daring to take another step forward.
The solo survivors who’d been eyeing the situation earlier were now dead silent, heads down, avoiding any chance of meeting the gaze of this female reaper.
“I gave you a chance, didn’t I? Alright, we’re outta here.”
Riley didn’t press the fight.
Even though it looked like a clean win, she knew her own condition was shaky. She was sitting at half health, and that explosive flurry had drained a serious chunk of her stamina. More importantly, TartKing was completely tapped out–no supplies left.
If these guys actually lost it and rushed them all at once–and if those solo players decided to jump in too–this could easily turn into a war of attrition. And in a drawn–out fight, the odds of them losing were way too real.
Putting on her best I–can’t–be–bothered cool, Riley let out a dismissive snort, grabbed the

dazed TartKing by the arm, and nodded at Pineapple Beer.

The trio quickly backed out of the stone hall and melted into the dark twists of the tunnel beyond.
They left behind a room full of stunned silence.
“This way.”
Once they were well out of sight, PineappleBeer took the lead.
She didn’t even glance at the Tattered Dungeon Map in Riley’s hand. Instead, she guided them through the winding underground labyrinth like she had the layout memorized–turn left here, squeeze right there, slip through an inconspicuous crack in the wall.
A few minutes later, they arrived at a superbly hidden little room.
It was a storage closet tucked in a dead–end corner of the maze, seriously off the beaten path. No monster spawns nearby. Inside were a few empty wooden shelves, dusty but dry. It felt
