Chapter 705 The Vortex’s True Purpose
Chapter 705 The Vortex’s True Purpose
Riley glanced at her.
TartKing sniffled softly.
“I know it sounds stupid, but I need to say something dumb right now.”
Riley nodded.
But the tomb behind them gave them no extra time.
After Pineapple Beer vanished, the vortex did not shrink.
If anything, it spun faster and faster.

Stone tablets behind the throne tore apart one after another. Stone tables, stone benches, broken weapons, and shattered crystal shards all got swept upward. The black stone pillars lining the platform’s edge ripped out of the ground like uprooted stakes caught in a storm.
All the surviving players panicked completely.
“It’s not stopping!”
“Forget the crystals! Run!”
“Where’s the exit?!”
The remaining players in dark blue cloaks bolted toward the platform edge. The scarred man leaped over a pile of broken stones, only for the vortex’s pull to yank him backward mid–air. He jammed his halberd into a crack in the stone to hold on, hanging there while his legs got swept up by the current.
A mage beside him tried to pull him free. A brush of spacetime turbulence grazed the back of his hand. His skin shriveled instantly before snapping back to normal, and the sharp pain made him scream out loud.
The reddish–brown heavy armor squad formed a shield wall and backed away slowly.
Their defenses were strong, and they managed to resist the pull at first.
Then a fissure split open beneath the platform. The outermost member of the shield wall lost his footing and got sucked straight toward the vortex. His teammates reached to grab him, only to get dragged away right alongside him.

The black–cloaked assassin squad fared even worse.

They relied on stealth and burst attacks, but the vortex ignored stealth entirely. Two shadowy figures darted behind rubble, only to be flung out mid–air the next second and pulled into separate glowing rifts.
The scattered solo survivors died in chaotic, brutal ways.
Some got pulled into visions of snowy plains.
Some got dragged into the dark ocean.
Some were half–swallowed by the vortex, their bodies still partially on the platform. Their screams cut short before they vanished completely.
Riley grabbed TartKing by the shoulders, but there was nowhere left to run.
The platform’s edge had shattered into fragments. All stairways were torn apart, and spacetime rifts spread everywhere behind the throne.
The Divine Mirror’s brutal side effects still weighed heavily on her. She had no strength left to activate another demon contract.
Riley watched the faint glow flickering on every person the vortex swallowed. A sudden thought crossed her mind. Right before each survivor vanished into the depths, a faint light lit up on their bodies.
It looked just like a teleportation array.
The vortex wasn’t purely destructive.
It was correcting displacements, sending everyone back to their original servers and timelines.
Pineapple Beer had been pulled to where she was supposed to be.
All these ambushers were being sent back to where they came from too.
What about her and TartKing?
They belonged to Winter War Zone 66.
Their anchor point was never on Floor 20.
Riley tightened her grip on TartKing’s wrist, her voice steady and calm.

“Getting sucked in might not be a bad thing.”
TartKing froze in shock.
“Huh?”
“I think it’s sending us home.”

The moment the words left her mouth, the stone ground beneath their feet split apart.
The Frosted Judgment Greatsword jammed in the stone let out a sharp ring and floated upward from the pull. TartKing instinctively tried to hold tighter, but Riley pressed her hand down to stop her.
TartKing caught on instantly and switched her greatsword back into its staff form.
The next second, the ground vanished under their feet.
The spacetime vortex’s power wrapped around both of them.
TartKing yelped and latched onto Riley tightly.
Riley held onto her just as firmly.
Their world spun upside down.
The platform, the throne, the stone tablets, the fleeing survivors, and the shattering starlight in the air all stretched into long, glowing lines of light.
The last person Riley saw before getting pulled into the vortex was the black sword man.
He lay sprawled on a broken stone tablet, one hand gripping the edge for dear life while his other stretched toward his black sword lying far away. The vortex swept in from behind him. All calculation faded from his face, leaving only pure terror.
A moment later, he got swallowed up as well.
The woman in the silver–gray light armor, Green Pear, the scarred man, the remaining members of the reddish–brown heavy armor squad–every last survivor who failed to escape got consumed by streaks of light from all directions.
The entire tomb collapsed with a deafening crash.
Nothing but blinding light remained in Riley’s sight.

She had no idea how long she spun inside the vortex.
Chaotic noises echoed nonstop in her ears.
Riley couldn’t open her eyes.
The only thing she could feel was TartKing’s grip on her, tight and unwavering.
