Chapter 708 Lights Through the Blizzard

Chapter 708 Lights Through the Blizzard

The farmland had been trampled flat.

Half the brewery’s roof had been torn away Lily cried her heart out, wiped away her tears, and hauled out barrels to make firebombs.

The nativespublic activity room had been turned into an firmary. Bloodstained leather curtains hung over the entrance, wil people constantly coming and going all day long. The cook used a kitchen knife to cut bandages. Anna sat by the brazier, cutti usable leather scraps into makeshift bracers and neck guards.

Ever since the players had been teleported away, the camp’s defensive lines had kept falling back.

Again and again, they’d retreated.

By now, the only defensible area was the small zone around Riley’s personal camp, extending east toward Hope Guild’s Guild Residence. The obsidian walls around the Guild Residence still held strong, and several automated crossbow turrets remained operational. But with every player gone, all the workreloading bolts, repairing gear slots, clearing monster corpsesfell entire on the native survivors.

Shift change!someone shouted from behind.

The young male guard didn’t move.

The woman beside him elbowed his arm. Why are you zoning out? It’s your turn to switch out.

He kept staring out at the blizzard. The last wave didn’t fully retreat. I’m not leaving you to clean up my mess.

She snatched his crossbow out of his hands. Go get some soup. There’s still half a pot. I’ve got this. Don’t underestimate mei’n just as good as you are.

The young guard opened his mouth to argue, but held his tongue.

The second he turned to leave, two faint lights flickered far within the wind and snow.

The two points of light cut straight toward them, one higher, one lower, trembling through the blinding white snow curtain.

The young guard froze midstep.

What’s that?

The woman had spotted it too. She instantly raised her crossbow, which she’d just lowered.

Everyone on the watchtower turned their heads at the same time.

A low roaring sound drifted closer, hugging the surface of the snow.

The monster horde reacted first. Several snow wolves patrolling the outer perimeter spun around and charged toward the glowing lights. In the next instant, the engine roar spiked sharply in volume.

He’d seen them once before.

Riley owned one of these iron show vehicles. Faster than sleds, deadlier than monsters. He hadn’t seen her drive it in ages.

Headlightsthose are headlights!

Who is it?

Someone’s out there!

Did survivors come back?

Don’t shout! The woman grabbed his shoulder firmly. Get a clear look first!

The young guard pressed his face harder against the plank crack. The stinging wind and snow burned his eyes. He could barely make put a snowmobile arcing along the edge of the monster horde, riding low to the ground with one person sitting atop it.

The lights drew the monstersfull attention.

Several longclawed beasts leaped toward the vehicle’s path.

The snowmobile swerved sharply, carving a white streak across the snow. The rider steered with one hand and raised an axe wit the other. The blade glinted under the headlights before hacking straight into the lead monster’s neck.

Blood sprayed outward, blown by the wind into a dark red mist.

The young guard’s face lit up with pure joy.

It’s survivors!

He scrambled down off the watchtower in a hurry.

I’ll report this! Hold the line! Keep a close watch outside!

The young guard had already sprinted away.

He jumped over fallen barricades and piles of monster corpses. His boots sank into halffrozen bloody mud, nearly sending him slipping.

Further in stood a makeshift arrow workshop.

Women wore illfitting partial armor, some with tattered kid’s blankets still tied over their wounded shoulders.

They sharpened wooden shafts, fitted iron arrowheads, coated them in black oil, and stacked them up for the front lines. Teenage boys dragged back empty arrow baskets. One boy rushed too fast and faceplanted into the snow. His mother pulled him up. brushed the snow off his face, and pressed a freshly baked loaf of bread into his hands.
