Chapter 709 The Familiar Headlights
He held an arrowhead, pointing it at the southern section of the map.
“We can’t fall back any further south. If we do, the warehouse’s back entrance will be exposed. We still have two crates of high–grade steel arrowheads and medical supplies inside”
Anna stood across from him, dark circles heavy under her eyes.
The southern guards have gone three full shifts without rest. If they don’t pull back now, the monsters won’t even need to attack tonight. Their bodies will give out first.”
Lily hugged a bundle of empty glass bottles, her voice tight with tension.
“We only have 37 firebombs left. The black fuel oil is almost gone. Just two more uses and it’ll run out completely. We can’t get into the obsidian castle right now, so there’s no way to restock.
Jack stared fixedly at the map.
Tll take a few men over there and hold the line for a while.
Joseph looked up at him.
Your left arm hasn’t healed properly. You forced a bow draw earlier, and blood’s already seeped through your elbow guard.”
Jack gritted his teeth.
“So you want me to just stand by and watch the southern breach fall?”
“Follow Joseph’s plan.
A calm voice cut through the argument from beside the table.
The figure wore Riley’s usual coat, with two axes resting within easy reach. Her posture and demeanor were eerily similar to Riley’s. She bore fresh wounds, a faint blood streak trailing along her cheek, yet her gaze was steady and unshaken. The moment she lifted her eyes, everyone arguing at the table subconsciously lowered their voices.
Variant Flame Wolf C.P. lay at her feet.
Once a majestic, fearsome wolf. large patches of its fur were now burned bare. A deep, bone–deep old scar ran down its spine. Red and blue flames still flickered at its claws, though far weaker than before. Its eyes were closed, and low growls rumbled in its throat now and then, as if it were chasing monsters even in its dreams.
The fake Riley placed a hand on the edge of the map.
“No retreat from the south. Move two handheld crossbows over from the east. Her voice sounded exactly like Riley’s. “Block the warehouse back door with storage shelves, leave only a narrow gap big enough for one person to squeeze through. Lily, split the remaining firebombs into three batches. Don’t use them all

at once. Jack, head to Watchtower Two. Don’t charge out. Keep an open retreat route for everyone. We’re
alizing our last defensive line.”
Jack stared at her for a moment and then nodded.
Joseph didn’t argue. He immediately picked up wooden markers to adjust the defenses on the map.
“We’ll do as she says. Anna, tell the kitchen to cook another thick pot of stew. Forget food reserves for now We just need to hold through this wave.”
Anna turned and hurried off at once.
Just then, the young guard bolted into the shelter. He tripped over his own feet and nearly crashed straight into the table.
“Lord!”
Joseph reached out to steady him.
“Slow down. Speak clearly.”
The young guard lifted his head and locked eyes with the fake Riley.
“Lord! The west side… something’s happening on the west side!”
The fake Riley raised an eyebrow.
“What about the west side?”
“There are headlights outside! Two people riding snowmobiles are fighting their way in from the northwest! The person in front is wielding an axe. I couldn’t see their face clearly, but they look just like you! I can’t tell if they’re allies or enemies!”
Everyone in the shelter looked up in shock.
The arrowhead in Joseph’s hand slipped from his fingers, clinking as it rolled across the map.
Even the fake Riley froze on the spot.
C.P.’s eyes flew open. It pushed itself unsteadily to its paws. The movement tugged at the scar on its back, fresh blood seeping through the scabs. It ignored the pain, letting out a low, warning growl toward the
west.
The fake Riley strode around the long table.
“We’re going to check the west side.”
Joseph snatched the hammer hanging from the shelter’s wooden pillar.
“Pass the order! Watchtower Two and Three stand by to open the gates. No one opens them early. All crossbows aim outward. If you see pursuing monsters, take them down first. Lily, bring ten of the
