Adriana had just arrived at the airport when a message popped up on her phone from Curtis. “I’m back. Just landed. Heading home now.”

She was thrilled. He’s back?

Adriana rushed toward the arrival gate.

Were you waiting to surprise me?” Adriana let out a soft groan. “I actually bought a ticket to Harborton. I was going to fly to you.” Curtis was stunned. He felt something warm spread through his chest.

“Let’s go home,” he said simply. His calm tone blocked all the comforting words she had planned to say. They got stuck in her throat.

“Curtis,” she couldn’t help it. She finally asked, “You gave up your claim to the company to protect me and our baby, didn’t you?”

Curtis smiled gently. “I gave it up. I didn’t divorce you. I didn’t fight Denton for Nicole. With all that, my grandpa has no reason to hurt you. Now he can sleep peacefully.”

Adriana lowered her head as he held her hand and walked. Then she suddenly stopped, gathered all her courage. She asked quietly, “Do you love me?”

She wasn’t clueless. She wasn’t numb. Adriana just wasn’t confident and wanted a clear answer.

If Curtis could look her in the eye and say he loved her, not because of a contract, she would believe it.

He smiled and carried her as they headed outside.

Kenneth quietly followed behind, pushing the luggage, pretending he heard nothing.

He hoped Curtis and Adriana would think of him as invisible.

Before getting into the car, Kenneth hesitated and asked softly, “Boss, are you sure you still

want me?”

Curtis looked at him in confusion. “What’s the matter? Planning to switch jobs?”

Kenneth quickly raised his hand and swore, “Absolutely not!”

Curtis raised a brow. “Are you feeling guilty of something?”

Kenneth took a deep breath and confessed, “I made a mistake. I didn’t read the situation right. I used to think you and Ms. Xander only had a contract marriage, that she was like one of those pretty girls the rich men keep like a pet.”

He whispered, embarrassed, “I even took Ms. Xander to meet a friend of mine, who is a kept woman for a rich man. I thought she should learn the proper attitude of being one.”

Curtis went silent. Now he finally understood Adriana’s weird actions from back then.
