Kenneth stayed quiet. From the look on Curtis’s face, he could tell Curtis was pretending to be poor to make Adriana feel bad for him.
Back home, Adriana and Curtis happily made dinner together.
Just like any normal couple–cooking side by side, sharing simple moments.
Adriana noticed something. Now that Curtis had left Lincoln Group, he actually had more time to stay with her.
“Curtis, don’t be sad. I’ll take care of you,” Adriana said seriously. “Once I graduate, I’ll work and support you.”
Curtis smiled softly. “Okay.”
Ding–Dong.
The doorbell rang.
Bad timing. Happiness always seems to attract unwanted visitors.
Adriana checked the door camera. It was Nicole.
Of course. She probably couldn’t wait to step on Curtis now that he had been kicked out of Lincoln Group.
Adriana opened the door. “What do you want?”
Nicole acted smug. She asked with a smile, “Adriana, you know Curtis isn’t the heir of Lincoln Group anymore, right?”
Adriana stayed silent.
Nicole continued, sounding even more smug. “But he still has a chance. If he marries me, according to the agreement, he can get back his inheritance. And not just that, he can inherit everything belonging to my family too.”
She was here to deliver an offer. In her mind, Curtis must be desperate.
He was a businessman. Curtis should understand what he stood to gain.

“Have you thought about it, Curtis?” Nicole smiled, full of herself.

Curtis wrapped his arm around Adriana and shut the door right in Nicole’s face. “What, is there a dog barking at the door?” he said calmly. “So noisy.”
He didn’t even bother pretending anymore. Just the sight of Nicole irritated him.
Adriana smiled. “Are you sure you don’t want to consider it? Her offer sounds tempting.”
Curtis looked at her, half amused. “I walked through all this trouble just to marry her? Really, Adriana? Do you have a heart?”
Adriana quickly coaxes him. “I’m sorry, I’m wrong.”
Curtis smiled and lifted her into his arms. “If you’re wrong, does that mean you accept your punishment?”
Adriana nodded obediently.
Curtis carried her toward the bedroom. “Tomorrow, I’m taking you to the hospital for your checkup.”
Adriana’s ears turned red. She lowered her voice. “Okay.”
Haldoria. Gary’s place.
Joe hurried into the living room, face tense. “It’s bad. The psychiatric hospital just called. That nutjob who tried to kill Adriana had escaped.”
Gary and Irene’s expressions darkened instantly. “That hospital is stricter than prison. How did he
get out?”
“I don’t think he escaped,” Joe replied, frowning. “Someone on the inside must’ve helped. Paid off, most likely.”
Irene let out a cold scoff. “So Chandler must’ve found out about him.”
“The police are searching,” Joe continued. “They’ll do everything to keep him from getting near Adriana. But if the Bartons really took him, what if he slips up? What if he says something about Adriana’s real background?” His voice grew tight with worry.
Joe’s concern was exactly what weighed on Gary and Irene.

Irene, as her aunt, had finally found her long–lost niece. She wanted nothing more than to protect her, cherish her, and keep her close every day. But she had kept their distance, afraid of exposing her identity.
If that madman accidentally revealed the truth, if Chandler or Danielle learned that Adriana was the real Nicole, they would do whatever it took to eliminate her.
“We have to find him,” Gary said quietly, voice firm. “And Fast.”
In the warehouse of the suburb, a madman was hanging from a wooden beam, his wrists tied above his head.
Someone kept punching him hard in the stomach.
“Boss, he’s crazy. No matter what we do, he won’t talk.” The man turned the camera on, showing Chandler the scene.
Chandler spoke calmly, almost gently, “You just need to tell me this. The child from back then, is she still alive? You tell me the truth, and I’ll let you go.”
