Chapter 235 A Dangerous Secret
Joe and the other officers quickly pinned Chandler’s men to the ground.
“Murder, huh?” Joe said as he pressed one of them down.

Gary crouched beside him and tapped the man’s face lightly. “We were just wondering how to pin something on Chandler. And here you are, delivering it right to our door. You really wanted to wipe everything clean, didn’t you?” He took the man’s phone, unlocked it with facial recognition, and checked. Sure enough, there was contact with Chandler–though nothing critical.
“He really did contact Chandler, but no key information showed up,” Gary said. “He sent you here to kill, didn’t he? Tell me. Why did he want to get rid of him?”
The man snapped back, “I wanted to kill that crazy guy myself! He’s a lunatic. He crossed me!” He stayed stubborn and refused to tell the truth.
Gary turned to the nearly hanged man. “If we hadn’t come in time, you’d be dead. And you still won’t talk?”
The guy suddenly started shaking on the ground, pretending to have a seizure.
He wouldn’t speak. He couldn’t speak. If he told the truth, Chandler would destroy him.
Besides, he had already killed two people; whatever happened next wouldn’t end well.
“Send him back to the mental hospital,” Joe ordered. “Take the others in. They won’t talk easily. It’s a decades–old case, too hard to prove anything now. We’ll have to make them speak.”
Gary nodded. “It’s your case now.”
He knew the truth. That madman would never admit that the real Nicole was still alive. If Chandler found out, he would make all of their lives miserable.
Luckily, Adriana’s identity hadn’t been exposed. For now, she was still safe.
Haldoria Hospital.
Adriana was pregnant again. This time, Curtis was extremely careful.
He didn’t tell anyone, not even family. They agreed to keep quiet for the first three months. It

The test results looked good. Everything was normal, and the HCG levels had doubled just right.
Adriana was happy but also worried for Curtis.
Just yesterday, Nicole had come to mock and laugh at him. Now that he had lost everything, people would line up to kick him down.
And of course, the hospital was the easiest place to run into familiar faces.
Sure enough, there stood Matthew and Natasha.
Natasha was injured. Matthew, with a tense expression, brought her to the hospital.
He was holding her arm, helping her walk, until he saw Adriana. The moment he caught sight of Adriana, he let go of Natasha. She almost stumbled to the floor.
Adriana found it almost funny. Back then, Matthew treated Natasha like something precious- careful, gentle, and protective. But now? He couldn’t wait to push her away.
How ironic.
“Adriana-” Matthew called out, anxious to talk to her.
Adriana didn’t even look at him. Her message was clear: stay away.
Matthew was a strange man. When Adriana belonged to him, he didn’t value her. Now that she belonged to someone else, he suddenly couldn’t forget her, couldn’t let go.
“Matthew!” Natasha snapped, upset. She had planned to use Matthew’s guilt to rebuild their relationship, maybe even save the engagement. She had even used the “poor me” trick to gain sympathy. But she never expected to run into Adriana and Curtis here.
“We’re leaving,” Adriana said calmly, taking Curtis’s hand.
Matthew, of course, couldn’t resist mocking Curtis.
“Harold kicked you out of the company so soon? I don’t understand. Without you, that company wouldn’t be what it is today.” His voice carried a mix of regret and disbelief.
Even though he was fighting Curtis for Adriana, Matthew wasn’t heartless. He wasn’t the type to kick someone when they were down.

Especially not Curtis, who looked almost pathetic now.
In a way, Matthew understood. His life felt just as messed up.

“Curtis, you were too sure of your place,” Matthew continued. “Did you really think that just because you’re the only direct heir, your position would always be safe? Did you really think your grandfather would never let Michael come back?” He wasn’t mocking Curtis for losing. He was mocking him for trusting too much.
From the beginning, Curtis should have locked down the inheritance rights and the shares tight in his hands.
“Adriana, Curtis is no longer a rich heir,” Natasha said with a sharp smile. “How does it feel dropping from the top? Getting used to the fall yet?” She folded her arms and mocked, “Your nightmare is just beginning. Think about how many people you’ve offended. They’re all waiting to watch you crash.”
“I’m not sure if anyone else is laughing at us,” Adriana said, giving Natasha a sideways glance, “but you’ve definitely made us laugh already.” Ever since she’d been with Curtis, she’d learned how to fire back without hesitation. “Matthew has already broken off the engagement with you, and you’re still trying to act pitiful?” Adriana continued, voice steady and sharp. “At least my husband simply stepped down from managing the company. Your family, on the other hand, is actually about to go bankrupt.”
And she wasn’t wrong; Curtis only handed over control of the company. The Lincolns were still standing.
But Natasha’s support was crumbling fast. And Matthew didn’t want her anymore.
If you really compared their situations, who was worse off?
Natasha’s face turned dark with anger. Her fists clenched so tightly it looked like she wanted to swallow Adriana whole.
“Adriana,” she spat, “let’s see how long you can keep acting tough.”
Everyone already knew Curtis had stepped down as CEO. And in this world, there were always those eager to flatter the powerful and step on you the moment you fell.
