They all knew they had no chance at Lincoln Group shares, but they all wanted a cut of the huge fortune Harold had built up over his lifetime.

“Oh, come on, don’t worry. My dad always has everyone’s interest at heart, and as the next patriarch, I won’t treat anyone unfairly either.” Michael was really letting all those flatteries go to his head–he was already acting like the next patriarch.

“Michael, you really are impressive. As long as we have you leading us, there’s no way we’ll lose out.” The Lincoln relatives showered Michael with praise, desperate to butter him up.

Juliet got just as much flattery. Despite all the branded outfits and jewelry she wore, her greed and lack of class were impossible to hide.

Ernest and Denton stood quietly off to the side, watching the whole scene with growing disappointment.

Ernest had been Harold’s butler for almost thirty years. He had practically watched Curtis grow up.

He knew that everything the Lincolns had today was thanks to Curtis’s hard work.

Now, Curtis had basically been cast out of the family, and that was the saddest part of all.

“Did Grandpa really not leave a will?” Denton asked.

He felt certain that, after all his years in the business world, Harold wouldn’t make such a rookie mistake.

A patriarch who didn’t make a will ahead of time was just inviting disaster after his death.

Even if Harold’s illness came on suddenly, Denton thought he would have made a will years ago.

Ernest didn’t answer. As Harold’s butler, he had to keep his distance on the subject to avoid suspicion.

But in truth, Ernest knew Harold had made a will.

The will was with the Lincoln Group’s legal team, split into four copies and held by four different lawyers. If anything happened to Harold, all four would have to present the will together for it to be read.

Harold always claimed there was no will because he didn’t want anyone to get ideas about tampering with it–or with the lawyers.

“Juliet, I’ve been the one keeping you company these past years, taking you shopping, hanging out with you. We have a special bond, so you better not leave me out,” said Rosa, one of Michael’s distant cousins.

The Lincolns‘ extended family all had their own little schemes. Each of them made sure to get Juliet and Michael, whom they all considered fools.

It was the same with Michael. All the distant Lincoln relatives were playing their own games to control Juliet and Michael, whom they saw as easy marks. They each collected their own leverage. Bur Michael and Juliet just lapped up the flattery and didn’t see anything wrong with it.

Michael was the type who never reflected on his actions when things went wrong.

Ernest glanced at Michael helplessly. Mr. Michael really didn’t seem like Mr. Harold’s son. And yet, both his sons turned out great, which is quite strange.

“Mr. Curtis!” Down the hall, Curtis arrived with Adriana. Ernest quickly wiped away his tears and hurried over to greet them.

“Mr. Curtis, you’re finally here. Mr. Harold is still in emergency care–we don’t know if he’ll make it,” Ernest said quickly.

Denton wanted to talk to Curtis, too, but with all these people around, he couldn’t show how close they really were.

Curtis shot a cold look at Michael and the others. “Did Grandpa leave a will?”

Ernest hesitated for a moment, then shook his head without saying a word.

Harold had ordered him never to reveal the will’s existence until the very end.

Curtis’s uncles all listened closely. After hearing there was no will, they finally relaxed.

Rosa smirked. “Curtis, your grandpa kicked you out of the Lincolns. You don’t need to fight for the family assets anymore, right? You’ve made plenty of money on your own these years. Why fight us for any of this?”

One of Curtis’s uncles jumped in, too. “Curtis, since your grandpa kicked you out of the Lincoln Group, you have no claim to the inheritance, right?”

The distant relatives all looked pointedly at Michael.

Michael tugged on his suit jacket, flashed his expensive watch, and gave a smug grin. “Curtis, your grandpa made it clear he wasn’t leaving you anything. I was there when he had his accident. We were talking about the inheritance. I’m his only son. He said those old agreements were just childish mistakes. Everything he has now belongs to me.”
