Chapter 260 Was It You?
“Do you need a ride?” Justin asked.
Yolanda and Adriana waved him off. “No need. Curtis said he’d come pick us up.”
Curtis had already told Adriana he’d come after finishing things at Ainsworth Group.
Justin nodded. Just as he was about to get into the car and leave, his phone rang. His expression changed instantly.
He took a deep breath, then slowly turned to look at Adriana. “Adriana, you need to prepare you Something happened to Curtis.”
Adriana’s face went pale at once. A sharp pain hit her stomach. She frowned and rushed forward in pane. “Justin, what do you mean? What happened?”
Yolanda grew anxious too. “What happened to Curtis?”
“He got into a car accident on the way to Haldoria University… He just inherited a huge sum from Mr. Harold. Too many people have their eyes on him.” And too many people want Curtis dead.
Adriana nearly lost her footing. Yolanda quickly caught her.
“He’ll be fine. Don’t be scared. Curtis has luck on his side,” Yolanda said, hurrying to calm Adriana.
Adriana’s eyes reddened. “I shouldn’t have let him come pick me up…”
Justin shook his head. “Adriana, some things can’t be guarded against. This time it was a car accident. Next time, it could be an assassination. The enemy is hidden, while Curtis is exposed. That’s just how it is.”
Adriana was trembling all over, desperate to rush to the hospital.
“Adriana, Curtis has contingency plans,” Justin said again. “No matter what happens, all you need to do is trust him and protect yourself.”
Adriana took a deep breath and nodded.
Haldoria Hospital.
By the time Adriana arrived, Curtis had already been taken into a room.
The accident wasn’t serious. Curtis had a few bruises and a mild concussion.
Thankfully, Curtis had been alert. Otherwise, the consequences could’ve been unimaginable.
But where there was a first time, there could be a second. This accident was a wake–up call for Adriana. Too many people wanted Curtis dead.

“Curtis?” Adriana rushed into the room, eyes scanning him in panic.
Curtis took her hand and smiled. “I’m fine. Just a mild concussion. I’ll be okay after some rest.”
Adriana broke down. She sat by the bed and cried against Curtis’s chest.
Curtis felt a pang of guilt. He knew anything happening to him would terrify Adriana…
But days like this might come again and again.
Until the person behind Chandler was dragged out, they’d be stuck in this cat–and–mouse game.
“Do you know who did it?” Adriana asked through sobs.
Curtis shook his head. “They’re still investigating.”
Chandler wasn’t that bright, but the one pulling his strings was.
“Could it be Matthew?” Adriana didn’t know why that name came to mind.

At the moment, in Haldoria, the only powerful person who had a grudge against Curtis was Matthew.
If Curtis died, Adriana would inherit everything. If Matthew then married Adriana, he’d get both the money and the girl.
Curtis laughed. “The person behind Chandler has been plotting against the Bartons and the Lincolns for over 30 years. Back then, Matthew wasn’t even an embryo.”
Adriana couldn’t help laughing too. “Either way, he’s not a good person.”
Yolanda stood nearby and didn’t interrupt, but when she noticed someone at the door, she hurriedly cleared her throat.
Adriana and Curtis clearly hadn’t noticed anyone had arrived. They kept talking. “Matthew went all out chasing Natasha back then. And now she ran off with his half–brother. He’s probably furious,” Curtis said.
“He’s kind of pathetic,” Adriana said helplessly.
“Ahem,” Yolanda cleared her throat loudly again.
Adriana looked at her. “Yolanda, is your throat bothering you?”
Curtis lifted his head and finally saw Matthew standing at the door, his face dark and oppressive.
Matthew was holding a fruit basket. He shot Curtis a cold look, then dumped the basket straight into the trash can by the door.
Curtis rolled his eyes. Petty much?
Taking advantage of the fact that Adriana hadn’t turned around yet, Curtis spoke again. “Babe … my head feels really dizzy. Kiss me. Maybe that’ll help.”

Adriana was completely obedient. She gently held Curtis’s forehead and kissed it.
Yolanda couldn’t even watch anymore. Curtis was being too flirty for her taste.

“Babe, you love me the most, right?” Curtis pulled Adriana into his arms, not letting her turn arou
“Of course.” Adriana nodded obediently.
Curtis looked at Matthew with a smug, provocative smile.
“I came to talk to you about your car accident!” Matthew said through clenched teeth.
Adriana jumped in shock, almost screaming. When did Matthew get here?
She shot him a wary look, bristling like a little cat, keeping him away from Curtis.
A flash of bitterness crossed Matthew’s eyes. His fingers went numb.
Once upon a time, Adriana had belonged to him. She’d once stood in front of him like this too, baring her claws to protect him…
He just hadn’t cherished it.
“What do you know?” Adriana demanded, wary and angry. “Was it you?”
