Adriana snorted, still not fully trusting Matthew.

“What do you know?” Curtis asked, watching Matthew warily as well.

Matthew glanced at Yolanda and Adriana, signaling for them to step outside.

“They’re not outsiders,” Curtis said flatly.

Matthew looked annoyed. “That has nothing to do with whether they’re outsiders or not. You’re really good at playing the nice guy. I don’t want them hearing this because I don’t want to drag them into it.”

Curtis smugly squeezed Adriana’s hand. “You and Yolanda go take a walk. Didn’t you say there’s an old man selling really fresh fruit outside the hospital? Go buy some.”

Adriana looked at Matthew cautiously. After a moment of thought, she nodded and left with Yolanda, hand in hand.

“Curtis, who taught you to flirt like that?” Matthew snapped angrily. When exactly did Curtis start wanting to steal Adriana from me?

“I learned it from your first love,” Curtis said, leaning back on the bed with a smug grin.

Matthew was so angry that his breathing went uneven. He closed his eyes. “Why didn’t the crash just kill you?”

“What, disappointed?” Curtis raised an eyebrow.

“Today … when I went back to Langford Group, I heard my dad’s illegitimate son, Rex, on the phone saying things like ‘run him over‘ and ‘kill him.‘ I didn’t pay attention at first. Not long after that, I heard you’d been hit by a car,” Matthew said in a low voice.
