Matthew stayed silent as well. He only wanted to know whose pawn Rex was, who had ordered him to make a move on Curtis, and then use that to strike a deal with Curtis. That was all.
He had no intention of letting Rex know he was present. Otherwise, things would get messy fast.
Seeing Matthew refuse to take a stance, Curtis lifted his chin, signaling his men to continue.
One of them picked up a stick and smashed it hard into Rex’s stomach, followed by a brutal beating.
Rex screamed until he was hoarse, sounding utterly pathetic, yet he still refused to talk.
“Well, your little brother’s got a tough mouth,” Curtis said, glancing at Matthew with
amusement.
“That just means whoever’s behind him is someone he doesn’t dare offend. Otherwise, he would’ve confessed already,” Matthew said in a low voice.
Curtis nodded and looked at his men. “You spent years as a mercenary in Darqah, and this is all you’ve got? Use some of the methods you learned out there. Just don’t kill him. Leave him breathing.”
Rex couldn’t see anything with the blindfold on, but his hearing was extremely sharp right now. It was obvious–this was Curtis’s voice.
Rex had seen Curtis before and vaguely remembered his voice.
So Curtis already knows? How did Curtis find out I was the one who arranged the car crash?
But Rex didn’t dare call Curtis by name. He was afraid he’d be silenced.
Suspended there in terror, he had no idea what they were about to do to him.
Soon, screams echoed through the warehouse.
“I’ll talk … I’ll talk…” Rex cried. “It was my dad! My dad told me to do it!”
Matthew’s expression darkened. He raised a hand and rubbed his brow.
He’d planned to expose the mastermind behind it all, but instead, he’d dragged his own father into it.

“So, your dad.” Curtis looked at Matthew and let out a cold laugh. “The Langfords really are… birds of a feather.”
“Don’t lump everyone together. At least I knew nothing about this,” Matthew said through clenched teeth, lowering his voice.
“What, so you want to use my hand to get rid of your brother, and then to get rid of your dad?” Curtis mocked.
Matthew was angry. His original plan had been to work with Curtis to eliminate the person behind Rex and take Rex out along the way.
He hadn’t expected Rex’s backer to be Raymond.
“My dad can’t be the mastermind… someone must’ve pushed him into this. He handed it off to that idiot, Rex,” Matthew said in a low voice as he and Curtis walked out of the warehouse.
He couldn’t truly join forces with Curtis to take out his own biological father.
“Your dad is the type who would destroy his wife for his lover’s sake. Not only that, he dragged all those illegitimate sons into Langford Group, playing some twisted survival game. Langford Group should’ve been yours, but now you’re forced to split the profits with these low–class idiots. Don’t you feel humiliated?” Curtis deliberately stirred the pot.
So what if Raymond is his biological father?
Matthew frowned and shot Curtis a warning look. “I know my father. He has no grudge against you. Langford Group isn’t afraid of you making a comeback. He has no reason to kill you. Don’t start thinking about murder.”
Matthew was starting to panic. Curtis was the type who could really lose control.
If Curtis truly went mad, Matthew wasn’t sure he could protect Raymond.
“Heh. If he doesn’t die, your family assets will eventually all end up in the hands of illegitimate sons,” Curtis said, cigarette between his lips, waving his hand. “Think it through.”
Matthew’s face sank. He didn’t respond.
“Well, I’ll leave your brother to you, Matthew. Don’t kill him. I’m heading home to sleep with my wife. Bye,” Curtis deliberately called out loudly at the warehouse entrance before getting into the car and driving away.
Matthew stood there in shock, his chest tight and his breathing uneven.

Rex now knew Matthew had been involved in the kidnapping. There was no way he’d let it go. He’d definitely go home and complain to Raymond. When that happened, Matthew’s position would become extremely difficult, and Raymond and Rex would automatically push him into Curtis’s camp.
Which meant Matthew would be forced to cooperate with Curtis.
Matthew ground his teeth, wishing he could chop Curtis into pieces. He kicked the car door hard, then wanted to slap himself.
Why did I have to meddle in this mess? I thought I could use Curtis, but in the end, Curtis used me instead.
Inside the warehouse, Curtis’s men had already left, driving away one by one.
Rex was left hanging there in misery, struggling in terror. “Matthew? Matthew… are you there?”
Rex knew Matthew was there.
There was no way to hide it now.
Matthew walked over with a dark expression, tore off Rex’s blindfold, and slapped him hard across the face. “You idiot! Who told you to touch Curtis? You thought getting kicked out of Lincoln Group turned him into a lamb waiting to be slaughtered? Idiot!”
Rex and Raymond were courting death.
“M–Mathew, let me down…” Rex pleaded in fear. Matthew had always wanted him gone. It was late, and the place was dark. He was afraid that Matthew would take the chance to kill him.
