“Curtis has run Lincoln Group for so many years. His people are embedded in every department. Almost all the mid and upper–level management are his. Do you really think he’ll just let it go? He won’t. He’ll take everything you have.” Savannah grabbed Denton’s wrist. “I’m not telling you this to make you fight Curtis. I just want you to grow up faster. To become strong.”
Denton nodded. “I know… but before I can stand by my own, I have to act obedient and play nice. I need Curtis to lower his guard against me.”
Savannah nodded. “That’s not wrong. It’s just… that kind of growth is too slow. Going to school and enriching yourself is one part of it. The other part is that you need backing.”
Denton gave a bitter smile. “I have no family to rely on. Where would my backing come from?”
“Curtis got his hands on so much money. So why is he still in trouble? It’s the same reason. He has no one behind him. Too many people are stepping on him and don’t want him to rise again. But you can, Denton. You’re an eagle. You just haven’t spread your wings yet.” Savannah looked at Denton seriously and spoke again. “You have to learn to be ruthless. Learn to step on and use everything and everyone you can to climb upward.”
“I don’t understand.” Denton frowned, confused.
“The enemy of your enemy is your friend. You have to learn how to borrow power first.” Savannah was a very capable woman. Otherwise, Harold wouldn’t have spent so much money training her and then sent her to Denton’s side.
Originally, Harold had trained this group of people to help Curtis. Denton’s appearance changed the game.
“Chandler is the last person who wants to see Curtis rise again. Right now, he’s Jeremy’s only son. Nicole may have been found, but once Jeremy passes, the real control will still be in Chandler’s hands. You can work with him. Sacrifice your marriage first. Register a marriage with Nicole and take control of the Bartons, then hand part of the benefits to Chandler. That way, you can secure Chandler as your backing.”
Savannah finally revealed her true goal.
Denton looked at Savannah meaningfully.
So Chandler bought her off…
“Chandler…” Denton turned his gaze away. “I don’t like him. And I won’t marry Nicole.”

“Denton, this isn’t the time to act on impulse. You’re isolated right now. Only by becoming the Bartons‘ son–in–law can you stand on solid ground, shake the Lincoln Group elders, and leave Curtis no way out,” Savannah said urgently.
Denton didn’t respond and walked toward the living room.
“Denton!” Savannah called out helplessly.
When Denton went upstairs, she actually let out a breath of relief.
As long as Denton wanted to grow, it was only a matter of time before he could be persuaded.
Curtis would never truly trust Denton. That was her opening.
Outside the Langford Estate.
Rex walked out of the villa, humming smugly as he headed for his car. Before he could get in, a sack was thrown over his head, and a heavy blow knocked him out cold.
Matthew took a deep breath and kicked him hard again.
“Quit settling personal scores and move him already. Don’t let your dad find out,” Curtis said. He was dressed in a black tracksuit, a baseball cap pulled low, a cigarette between his lips as he ordered Matthew around.
Matthew shot Curtis a dark look. “Help me. I can’t lift him alone.”
“I’m a patient. I just got hit by a car and was discharged today. I can’t do heavy labor. I’ll leave it to you, Mr. Langford. After all, he’s your brother,” Curtis said smugly.
Matthew felt like Curtis would drive him to an early grave. “I’m helping you this time. Once we find out why he had someone try to ram you, you’d better remember this favor.”
Curtis took a drag and exhaled, smiling. “Isn’t this me helping you settle a personal score? Giving you a chance to beat up this half–brother of yours? There were two groups today. The one that hit me was arranged by me. The other group that actually wanted me dead saw the crash and ran.”
Matthew stared at Curtis in shock.
This lunatic … actually hired someone to ram his own car?
At an outskirt warehouse.

covered.
“Talk. Who told you to have someone ram Curtis?” one of the men demanded coldly, punching Rex hard in the stomach.
Rex was an illegitimate son of the Langfords and the most favored among them.
He was capable, though not on Matthew’s level. But he was vicious.
This guy would do anything to win. He was a petty, despicable man.
“Stop hitting me… Stop! I don’t know what you’re talking about! You’d better let me go, or when my dad finds out, he won’t let you get away with this!” Rex shouted in panic, threatening them through the pain.
The man looked toward Curtis.
Curtis was leaning against a table, smoking. In the empty, silent night, the click of his lighter sounded especially sharp.
