Chapter 298 Fake It
Denton gave her a look of forced gratitude. “Thanks, Ms. Feron. Since Grandpa passed, you’re the only one who’s really been there for me.”
Savannah gave a fake sigh. “Don’t be silly. Taking care of you is something I owe. My dad and I were under your family’s wing. Everything we have is because of them. Harold asked me to take care of you. That’s my job. That’s what I was meant to do.”
Denton nodded like he appreciated it.
“Okay. Go to class. I’m skipping today. I’m heading out to find a few neighborhoods and pick out some good options,” Savannah said, barely able to sit still.
Denton gave a nod, watched her leave, then turned back toward his classroom.
There was still time before the next class period. Most of the seats were empty. Adriana and Yolanda were still laughing about something.
Denton walked over and sat next to them. His mood looked like it had completely tanked.
The girls glanced at him, then looked around. Savannah hadn’t come back. Yolanda smirked. “What’s wrong, little bro? Did a dog bite you?”
Denton nodded dully. Close enough. Just hadn’t broken skin.
“Spill it. Come on. Let us enjoy your misery,” Yolanda said with a grin.
She clearly just liked messing with him. Her type was older, successful, well–dressed men. If Adriana weren’t with Curtis, Yolanda would’ve been all over him.
Even if it wasn’t Curtis, it’d have to be someone like Justin or Matthew.
But Denton? He was just a toy to tease.
Denton could tell. He didn’t know why it bugged him, but it did. Still, he spoke up. “Savannah wants me out of the hotel. She said she’s buying me a villa.”
Yolanda and Adriana exchanged a glance.
Then both slammed their palms on the desk. A sharp bang echoed through the room. “Take it! Spend her money! And make sure your name’s on the deed,” they said in sync.
Denton looked at them, exasperated. “She’s way too desperate to get me out of there. There’s no way this doesn’t have strings. Last night, they even tried to seduce me.”

The girls paused, thinking it through. Savannah definitely played dirty. Denton wasn’t ready to go up against someone like her.
Yolanda raised an eyebrow. “Let her buy it. Just don’t move in. What’s she gonna do? In the end, she’ll be out a man and out the cash.”
They were still huddled over their strategy when a pretty girl peeked through the classroom door. She looked around and lit up when she saw Denton. Her smile was sweet but shy. “Denton? It’s me.”
Denton blinked. It was the girl from the lounge last night. Lily.
She handed him a drink, then sat beside him, all flustered. “I don’t have class this afternoon. Can I stay with you for a bit? Thanks for stepping in last night.”
Denton glanced at Yolanda, nervous. All he saw in her eyes was curiosity and surprise. No jealousy at all. His eyes dropped. “Yeah, sure,” he said quietly.
Yolanda leaned in and bumped her shoulder against his. Her grin stretched wide. “Well, well. Got yourself a girlfriend already, huh?”
“I’m 20. That’s legal marriage age in Harborton,” Denton muttered. His tone was flat, almost sulky.
Yolanda laughed harder and threw a look at Adriana. “Is he thinking about getting married now?”
Adriana glanced at Denton, then turned to the shy girl beside him. “What school are you from? What’s your name?”
“Dance school down the street,” the girl blurted out. “My name’s Lily Compton.”
Adriana gave a slow nod. A dance school. Probably the same one Belinda went to.
“Do you know Belinda?” Adriana asked, her voice calm.
Lily flinched. Her expression changed in a second. Panic hit her face as her eyes locked onto Adriana’s. “No … I don’t know her.”
Adriana nodded again. That lie was too shaky.
Savannah had been the one to introduce Lily to Denton. That alone made her suspicious.
Denton was still Curtis‘ brother. Adriana wasn’t about to let her guard down.
While class was still going, Adriana pulled out her phone and sent a message to Belinda.

Belinda had moved abroad, but neither of them had deleted each other’s numbers.
Adriana asked, “Do you know a girl named Lily? She might be from your school.”
Adriana snapped a picture of Lily and sent it over.
There was no reply for a while. Time zones, probably.
Adriana figured Belinda never expected her to text first again.
By the end of the day, a reply came through.

Belinda answered, “I know her. That girl’s a snake. Why the hell do you have her number?”
Lily wasn’t just a familiar name. She was the one who had stolen Belinda’s boyfriend.
Adriana texted, “She dropped into one of our classes.”
Belinda answered, “Stay away from her. My ex showed up again a few weeks ago. He has HIV. And trust me, he definitely slept with her. God knows who gave it to who. Just keep your distance.”
Adriana stared at the message. Her chest tightened like a clamp.
