Elise broke down crying. “Matthew, are you really trying to push me to the edge?”

Matthew’s voice stayed calm. “She’s your wife. Whether you divorce her or stay together is yo business. What, you thought I was still the same old Matthew you used to control?” He steppe toward Raymond with a slow, cutting smile. “Dad, times have changed. Langford Group? It’s mine now.”

Raymond’s whole body began to tremble with rage.

His phone rang. He snatched it up and pressed it to his ear. On the other end, Rex shouted, panicked and out of breath. “Dad! Matthew’s already replaced all of Langford Group’s top execs with his own people. He’s been planning this for years! HR just called and told me I’ve been fired. What do we do?”

Raymond stared at Matthew in complete disbelief. He finally realized what this was. Matthew was wiping out all of his illegitimate sons.

“You’re cutting your brothers out? You kicked them from the company, and now what? Are yo planning to destroy them too?” His voice cracked as the anger built inside him.

His breathing turned rough and uneven, and Elise rushed to his side to keep him steady.

Matthew let out a quiet scoff. He looked straight at Raymond and gave a small, mocking smile “My mom gave birth to Mia and me. I have only one sister. All the others are not my siblings.”

Elise’s voice trembled as she rushed to speak. “Matthew, what exactly did you do? Even if Rex and the rest didn’t come from me…” Her eyes darted to Mr. Langford. She straightened her shoulders and forced herself to sound calm. “They’re still your half–brothers. You’re family. You’re supposed to stick together.”

Matthew almost laughed. That blind loyalty of hers really was something. Years ago, he thought it was funny too, but he wasn’t strong enough then. He had to play along. Now? He couldn’t stomach another second of it.

“Mom, you go ahead and keep pretending you two have some perfect marriage. I’m done playing house. Let Mia stay here and play the role of the good kid.” He walked up to Raymond, calm and poised. “Dad, you’re getting up there in age. It’s time you step down from the board

The only reason he ever handed over the shares and control was that he thought he knew Matthew’s weak spots. He thought Matthew was easy to manage.

Elise’s eyes filled with tears. She backed away and didn’t say anything else.

He was ready to curse Matthew again when his phone rang. The screen showed an unknown number.

His back went stiff. His fingers started shaking. He stared at the phone, too afraid to answer.
