Chapter 344 Mission Begins
She really was a terrible person. She was six whole years older than Denton.
The more she thought about it, the worse she felt.

“Adriana, I’m awful. I’m a horrible person…” Yolanda was still sobbing and blaming herself.
Adriana was so stunned she couldn’t even get a word out.
Denton really was just a kid… and she…?
Adriana swallowed hard and tugged the blanket away from Yolanda. “Th–then drunk. Was he drunk too?”
you were
“He came to the bar to find me. He beat up the guy who was trying to take advantage of me and dragged me back to the hotel. I had alcohol buzzing in my brain and just … pushed him down.” Yolanda’s voice was small and wronged. “He wasn’t drunk…”
As she replayed last night, she remembered that Denton had fought her off at first—she’d just been a little too aggressive.
“I can’t live like this…” Yolanda wailed. “What am I supposed to do, Adriana? How am I supposed to face that kid in the future? He sees me as his big sister, but I…”
Adriana took a long breath. “Okay, you calm down first. I’ll go check on Denton…”
She stood up and headed toward Denton’s room.
These two… never a dull moment.
Curtis and Gary going out together was stressful enough… now, these two had to stir up trouble too.
She knocked on Denton’s door. When he opened it, Adriana hesitated a few seconds before speaking. “Denton, about you and Yolanda…”
Denton looked like the most wronged person on earth, eyes and nose going red as he spoke in a pitiful tone. “Adriana, in a situation like this…. shouldn’t she be responsible for me?”
Adriana was speechless for a moment. How exactly was she supposed to “be responsible“?
Denton kept going, still milking the grievance. “Adriana, I’m only 20. I don’t know anything. I have zero experience–but I’ve heard that this kind of thing means you have to take

responsibility, that you can only do it after you’re married. I tried to push Yolanda away, but she still forced herself on me. If she won’t marry me, isn’t that … immoral?”
Adriana fell quiet again.
Her eyelids twitched.
In that moment, she realized just how serious this had gotten.
Odds were pretty high that Yolanda was well and truly in trouble.
Denton, in this state, was absolutely planning to latch onto her for life.
“Adriana, don’t you think Yolanda should take responsibility for me?” Denton even put on his most innocent face.
Adriana finally saw it clearly–Denton was doing this on purpose. He’d probably had a thing for Yolanda for a long time.
“Responsibility is something the two of you have to work out together…” Adriana decided she was not getting in the middle of this one. They could sort themselves out.
But if she knew Yolanda at all, Yolanda only saw Denton as a little brother–there was zero romantic feeling there.
Yolanda’s type was men like Curtis and Justin: mature, put–together, and steady. There was no
way
she’d ever like a kid like Denton.
And they were six years apart.
Six years didn’t sound like much, but it wasn’t exactly nothing either. People say there’s a generational gap every three–so that’s two gaps right there.
Even if they did like each other, the road ahead would be rough. And right now… Denton was way too hot–headed and impulsive.
Based on what she knew of Yolanda, Adriana was sure Yolanda did not like Denton that way.
Denton sniffled and nodded pitifully. “Then, I’ll wait until Yolanda’s willing to talk to me. We can talk then.”
Adriana drew in another deep breath, nodded, and slipped out of the room.
Denton and Yolanda–what a cursed match.

When she got back to the living room and was just about to sit down, Adriana saw Gary and Curtis walk in.
Worried, she hurried over, scanning Curtis up and down for any injuries.
Gary spoke first, voice low. “Relax, I didn’t lay a hand on him.”
Adriana coughed, a little embarrassed.
“You two don’t even get along. Where did you go?” Irene asked curiously.
“Something happened back home. We went to handle it,” Gary replied casually as he helped Irene back to their room.
“What happened?” Adriana lowered her voice to ask Curtis.
“The Gills made a move from the shadows. They’re trying to take over Lincoln Group’s overseas projects while everything’s in chaos.” Curtis gently rubbed her belly, as if reminding the babies to behave.
“So, the Gills really are a problem?” Adriana looked up at him.
That was exactly what she’d been worrying about–that there was something off about that family.
“For now, it looks that way. But whether they’re the masterminds behind everything, I still have doubts. I’m going to find a way to get close to them. If the real puppeteer turns out to be someone from the Gills, we won’t hesitate when it’s time to hit back,” Curtis said, voice low.
Chances were high that he and Gary would end up working together to go after the Gills.
At the business school, Denton ran into the Gill family’s little princess, Maya.
Curtis had given Denton a mission: get close to Maya and find out what he could about the
Gills.
Denton felt like a walking brick–wherever someone needed to be moved, that’s where he got carried.
“Thanks…” Maya’s books slipped from her arms, and Denton bent down to pick them her.
She smiled at him. “Are you from Astoria too?”
