After everyone left, Adriana glanced at the time. Silas had asked her to take a walk by the Harborpoint with him tonight. She honestly had no idea why he wanted to walk at this late hour.
She had wanted to turn him down, but the hidden problems Chandler had left behind inside Barton Group had recently resurfaced.
Philip had mentioned that Julian just happened to have a pretty good relationship with Silas.
She had no choice but to agree.
“Ms. Xander, Danielle’s already been tossed aside by Chandler,” Kenneth said quietly as he stepped over and leaned close to Adriana. “I heard he’s planning to use her as a bargaining chip for a favor. Right now she’s with Justin.”
Adriana raised an eyebrow. During the design competition, she had turned their own move against them, leaving Danielle completely useless. She already knew someone like Chandler would sacrifice anyone if it meant saving himself.
They would definitely abandon Danielle.
And she knew far too many of their secrets. Tying up loose ends–making sure no witnesses were left behind–would most likely be the end waiting for her.
Adriana let out a quiet sigh. “Danielle may be manipulative and calculating, but she doesn’t deserve to die. What a shame.”
Adriana was not some saint. She wouldn’t help Danielle unless she still had some value to her.
“Danielle made her own choices. Whatever happens to her now is on her,” Kenneth said, though he also felt it was a shame.
“Have Chandler’s people been up to anything else lately?” Adriana asked as she walked out with Kenneth. She knew Curtis was upstairs watching over her. She wanted to see him, too, but this wasn’t the right time.
“Chandler is doing everything he can to prevent you from taking over the Barton Group. Justin is being vague right now, which has given Chandler’s side some confidence. Julian is also a key figure. Even though your takeover of Barton Group has been fairly smooth, and the partners are gradually shifting to support you, Julian is still the trump card for Chandler. As long as he refuses to cooperate, those senior executives who have financial ties with him will start to believe you’re not capable enough. Some of them might even take the opportunity to make underhanded moves.”
After all, whether in business or anywhere else, money was always the strongest tie.
“I’ll figure out a way to deal with Julian,” Adriana said firmly as she headed for the exit. “At Barton Group, we can’t leave Chandler any way to make a comeback.”
Behind her stood Curtis. No matter what she did, she believed he would always have her back. “Have someone keep an eye on Julian. From his personal life to his work–every little detail. I don’t believe he is completely flawless.”
Harborpoint.
Silas had asked Adriana out for a walk here partly for the sake of the media.
Quite a few paparazzi were already hiding in the dark, waiting.

Right now, Adriana was one of the hottest figures in the business world. She wasn’t just the legal heir of Barton Group–she was also the widow of Curtis. After Curtis’s death, what he left Adriana wasn’t only the resources of Hengan, but also his network of powerful connections and career advancement.
Plenty of people were now thinking about marrying Adriana as a shortcut to the top–getting Curtis’s inheritance and control of the Barton Group at the same time.
By walking with Adriana tonight, Silas was also giving those restless, ambitious wolves a warning.
Adriana was not someone they could casually reach for.
“The temperature in Haldoria is just right this season,” Silas said with a smile as he looked at the lights reflecting across the lake. “Enjoying the evening breeze and the night view can calm your mind and soothe your soul.”
Adriana didn’t respond. She simply looked at the lights as well.
“Is Curtis… still alive?”
Silas suddenly asked the question. Adriana’s body stiffened instantly, a chill running down her back.
The reason for Curtis’s fake death was to deal with Mister. If Silas suspected Curtis was still alive, did that mean Mister had never believed Curtis was dead either?
“What?” Adriana looked at Silas with a deliberately confused expression.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it,” Silas said apologetically. “I just think it’s a shame Curtis died. Someone with his kind of talent and skill was at the very top. For him to die like that… it’s really a loss.”
But Adriana watched him carefully. She knew Silas was testing her.
“The first half of my life was nothing but bad luck. I was left outside an orphanage and got adopted a few times, only to be sent back each time. Curtis was the only light in my life back then. More than anyone, I wish he were still alive–living a good life somewhere… Sometimes I hope his death was just an act, something meant for certain people to see.” Adriana spoke calmly, her voice steady and almost without emotion.
