When Danielle woke up at Justin’s residence, she found herself staring blankly at an unfamiliar ceiling.

The door opened. Susan stood there, staring at Danielle with open resentment.

Danielle barely had time to register the hostility before Susan’s face changed instantly into something sweet and polite. “Justin, Danielle’s awake.”

Danielle watched in stunned disbelief as Justin walked in.

He carried a tray of food, setting it on the bedside table. His expression remained glacial, unreadable.

“Danielle,” Susan said with a gentle smile, “you almost got taken away. Justin saved you.”

Danielle drew a shaky breath, forcing herself to look at Justin. “Thank you.”

Justin said nothing, only glanced at Susan. “Go ahead and eat without me, Susan. I need to speak with her alone.”

Susan shot Danielle a venomous look, clearly reluctant, but she obeyed.

Danielle almost blurted out the truth that Susan’s identity was fake, but then she stopped herself. Even if she said it, Justin wouldn’t believe her. So she stayed silent.

“Don’t overthink this. I didn’t save you for you. I did it for Grandpa.” Justin pulled an envelope from his pocket. “Before he died, his health was already failing. He forced himself to write this letter for you.”

Even Justin had been surprised. On his deathbed, Jeremy was still thinking about Danielle.

The shock in Danielle’s eyes curdled into fear. Her fingers trembled as she stared at the envelope, unable to open it.

‘He said you’re not evil by nature,” Justin continued. “Chandler’s methods are filthy. One day, he’ll discard you the same way he discards everyone else. You’re still a Barton by blood. He asked me to make sure you stayed alive.”

With that, Justin turned and left the room without waiting for her reaction.

Chandler was the illegitimate son Justin’s mother had obtained through shameful, underhanded means. But Danielle was different.

She was Chandler’s legitimate child.

She should have had loving parents and a warm home.
