Zoey stared at Alfred in shock, disbelief written all over her face. She could not accept that Alfred was defending Nella so firmly, even to the point of snapping at her.
Alfred continued calmly, “Zoey, Nella and I have been married for almost three years. I know exactly what kind of person she is. You may not understand her, but you shouldn’t judge her with malice. That’s not only an insult to her, it’s an insult to me.”
His words landed heavily. Zoey was completely stunned.
She could clearly hear his displeasure, all because of her ill intent toward Nella.
In the past, she had pulled him away from Nella again and again, yet he had never spoken to her like this.
Does he like Nella now?
The thought sent panic rushing through her.
She could not accept that possibility.
She had worked so hard to keep Alfred by her side. How could she let Nella take him back so easily?
Her eyes reddened at once. She lowered her head and apologized softly.
“I’m sorry, Alfred. I didn’t mean to say that about Nella. I was just too worried about Patrick and spoke without thinking.”
“Alright. Don’t say things like that again.”
Alfred’s tone softened slightly, though the anger in his chest had not fully faded.
Because it was Zoey, he still showed her some restraint, but he no longer felt like comforting her.
After a brief silence, Alfred seemed to think of something. He took out his phone and stepped aside to make a call.
When he returned, he said to Zoey, “I called Mr. Fred. If you’re worried about Patrick, we can go to the observation room and watch the surgery.”
Zoey nodded. “Okay. Thank you, Alfred.”
Soon, a hospital administrator arrived.

“Mr. Keywood, Mr. Fred has informed us. Please follow me.”
Under the staff member’s guidance, Alfred and Zoey entered the surgical observation room, a
space
used for doctors to observe and learn.
From there, the entire operating room was clearly visible.
At first glance, Alfred spotted the familiar figure among the crowd.
She was wearing green sterile scrubs. Her soft long hair was neatly tucked beneath a surgical
cap.
Her delicate face was hidden behind layers of masks, and her bright eyes were shielded by surgical magnifying lenses.
Even though he could not see her face at all, Alfred recognized her instantly.
“Bypass established.”
Voices sounded one after another inside the operating room.
Alfred watched as Nella stood at the operating table, holding a scalpel. She opened the patient’s chest with calm, practiced precision.
Her focus was absolute. Her hands were steady and skilled.
“We’ve located the tear in the inner lining.
