Before he could even react, the ground under his feet suddenly shook violently.
Alfred realized immediately what was happening. “An earthquake!”
He shouted, then, without thinking about anything else, he ran as fast as he could toward Nella’s tent.
Seldoria had been at war for years-fighting outside battles, then internal ones. There was no time, no equipment, to warn anyone about an earthquake.
It was already a place torn apart by war. Who could have imagined an earthquake would strike out of nowhere?
“Nella!”
“Sunny!”
Alfred and Wesley ran like crazy toward Nella.

Suddenly, a huge boulder rolled down from their right side. Right after that, more rocks kept falling, one after another, blocking their path.
The earthquake came so suddenly that no one was ready.
In an instant, screams and shouts filled the air.
The ground split open in jagged cracks, as if giant hands were tearing it apart.
Then it jolted violently upward.
Tall buildings, abandoned from the war, started swaying side to side. The whole world seemed to have spun out of control.
Nella felt like her heart was going to jump out.
She could hear Alfred and Wesley shouting her name.
Looking back, she saw both of them running toward her.
Through the falling rubble, she heard Alfred shouting, “Get under the table! Hurry!”
But at that moment, the table being used as a temporary operating table still had a badly injured man lying on it.
She didn’t know who he was, but her instincts told her this man was important.
She ignored Alfred’s warning and pulled him down, carefully getting him under the table first
Her body shook violently, and she could barely stand.
She tried to calm herself, looking for somewhere to hide, but it seemed too late.

“Nella!!!”
She only heard Alfred’s heart-wrenching scream behind her.
She was about to turn around when suddenly a powerful force pressed her down.
With a muffled grunt, the very next second, everything went black.
“Nella, are you okay?”
Alfred’s voice sounded right by her ear, trembling slightly.
Only then did Nella realize that the force that had pinned her down came from Alfred himself.
They were trapped under a pile of rubble.
The scene made her instinctively remember the time she had been buried under the snow.
Back then, it was the same-pitch black, nothing to see.
The difference was that last time, she had waited for death all alone.
This time, Alfred was there beside her.
The old trauma from before flared up again.
Her body shivered slightly. Surrounded by the darkness, her fear grew bit by bit.
Instinctively, she tried to find something to hold onto to calm herself.
Feeling around in the dark, her hand first touched an arm beside her.
She hugged it instinctively, her voice trembling as she called out, “Alfred?”
“I’m here.”
Alfred’s voice came from above her. Feeling the arm she was clutching, stiff and strong, Nella finally understood.
Alfred was protecting her. He was holding himself up above her, keeping the weight off her, creating a space for her.
